yea becasue 128kbps leaves so much room to sound glorious, simple tip don't squash the dynamics out of your tunes so much and don't upload an mp3 to to transcoded again into another mp3VirtualMark wrote:I think you guys have missed the point of the thread. My thoughts exactly, asif we don't already have enough to do. Everyone who knows about audio knows a 128kb stream is truely awful and therefore isn't any point in trying to make a shit stream sound 0.5% better (other than uploading a WAV to be convertered to a 128kb stream rather than a already low quailty file to be transcoded, as already mentioned by Deadly) At least the stream quality stops rips or at least audiophile conscious rips!
How do i get rid of that bass whistle on soundcloud?

The point I was making is I think its totally stupid and a massive waste of time to try and improve the sound of an 128kb streaming MP3. There are so many unwanted artifacts at this level of compression its just not worth bothering with, except the valid and logical tips already mentioned. I admire your pursuit for the ultimate mixdown for Soundcloud but who cares, people know its going to sound far superior when they buy or download a decent 320 or Wav.VirtualMark wrote:I think you guys have missed the point of the thread. Soundcloud is just a preview so the real version blows you away, sometimes I don't think thats actually a bad thing. If it sounds good on a stream I can't wait for the hi fi

did you upload a WAV or MP3 to soundcloud?
If it was an mp3 try encoding it with a different mp3 encoder and re-upload.

Overly bright mixes will suffer the worst going thru the encoding process. Put a gentle 6dB or 12dB lowpass filter set around 20k or higher over the mix. The filter actually starts attenuating around 10k with a very gradual rolloff reaching -3dB by the corner frequency(20k) and falling of sharply after that. This will reduce the effects of the encoding process on your mix without perceptibly altering your frequency balance.
Or better yet, start a petition for soundcloud to go with 320 encoding...
