Fuck all happened basically. I think people gradually cottoned on to the fact that it was a load of breeze.Today wrote:OT but did anyone ever actually do something about Joe Kony the alleged child enslaving mercenary?

And then the main charity guy took some ambien or something and got arrested for screaming and tossing himself off in the street.
Re: KONY 2012
Don't know if it's already been brought up, but there's a lot of fishy stuff about this organisation.
1) only 30% of the total income of the organisation goes to aid. the rest goes to making and spreading videos like this. that's way below minimum for an orgainsation to even be considered as an aid organisation.
2) The leader of the organisation is a known christian extremist, with very conservative values.
3) There's no real evidence in the video that proves that Kony in fact is the leader. He could just as well never done anything of it. People would still take it as truth.
4) An aid organisation can't send soldiers to a country. That is by nature going to lead to gunfire and the victims will be the children of Kony's army.
5) The whole video reeks of the typical "white man's burden", the thought of the strong white man's guilt of having enslaved the blacks and now wanting to help the weak.
6) Sending first time demonstrating kids and soldiers there is not going to solve anything. It's a question of diplomatics.
7) The organisation supports the local army which is known for rape, murder etc...
8 ) Kony isn't even in the country anymore and his location hasn't been known for several years. Why send troops there?

Re: KONY 2012
Funny how so many freaks jumped on the bandwagon because of a 30 minute youtube video! Idiots.
Re: KONY 2012
A few posters got dotted around. Snapped one up off a bus stop on the 21st of April.
I recall me and my mates had a very stoned conversation when it all first came about which at the time made so much sense. I felt like i'd figured it all out and that it was all a vicious sham.
Basically i got to thinking that if everyone ACTUALLY went on to do what he said it could of sparked a worldwide revolt and caused some catastrophic period. If everyone went out that night and started sticking up posters it would of got wayyy out of hand. Yes thats what the idea was but how many people would of taken it as an opportunity to go out and just cause trouble, violence, looting? Someone would of ended up being killed, people blamed and then it would of been blown way out of proportion. I referred to the London Riots as an example. But imagine if every major city worldwide did that. There would of been no one to stop a wordwide revolt. Police etc would of been useless.... However i was high as fuck when this thought/idea hit me hahahaha. It made so much sense then.

They're a non-profit, not an aid organization. Also, he was not a christian, a christian group donated to the cause.q-t wrote:Don't know if it's already been brought up, but there's a lot of fishy stuff about this organisation.

Re: KONY 2012
Yeah, that's probably correct.
What I meant is that only about 30% of their total expenses goes towards aid, which is below the standard for even being considered a proper aid organisation.
The whole organisation plays on feelings and such and their methods aren't very effective. If their goal was to get a lot of teenagers "aware" and giving them a feeling of helping out, then sure, the organisation has been successful. That doesn't mean that anything they do actually helps them reach their goal, though...

Re: KONY 2012
on the 20th of april, i expected too see nothing, i saw nothing.
i did leave the house.
i can't account for other countries and how they are, but the ridiculously shit amount of issues with discrimination in most forms around australia, i thought it was impossible for anyone too actually care about this, it was more about getting some E-Respect from other bandwagoners.
that being said, i did nothing, and never intended too.. there are issues in australia that i would've rather tried too do something for.
i posted that exact opinion on my facebook, got spammed by a bunch of idiots, who did nothing on the 20th of april, who said i don't and wouldn't do shit about racism and other issues.
i don't do anything kony size, but, i do what i can.. treat people of a different race with as much respect possible (usually more than most aussie wankers), i don't celebrate australia day, i generally try to educate people on police brutality and all that.. not much, but i've changed a few friends views on people from other countries and how they deserve equal rights, equal respect.. it does feel good, but i do it because it's what is right.
