Yeah, only stupid people stand next to the stack all night without ear plugs
Thanks for the tip Vishes, might have to give it a go
As for the GP, I know I need to go (for ear and back - I'm falling part) but I can't afford a prescription should they need to give me anything so it's gunna have to wait a while.
And thanks Luke, I might need to be really cheeky and take you up on that offer

I might give ear plugs a go like. I get serious ringing the day after. How does it affect the sound? Does it just make the highs a lot less piercing?
If anyone needs any for system give me a shout, I could grab a shit load from work, they'll just be disposable industrial ones though, but will definitely do the job.

yeah really relaxes the highs, makes the sound sort of surround you more rather than piercing your ear drums, and the bass stays exactly the same with a little less distortion

Maybe get your GP to have a look If they're still bothering you Bri. And for future times - earplugs!! I swear by em, get some for bangface. If you ain't got cash I'll get them for you! As a music lover you've got to protect your hearing.
See, I asked the door staff for earplugs at System, and VIVEK (who was talking to one of them at the time) assured me that he'd built the rig himself and as such earplugs would not be necessary.
Nonsense. He should know better than telling people shit like that.

Load of shite.
I didn't managed to get any earplugs at System, I really needed some too. Luckily my hearing was only messed for a 3-4 days.

For real? Well built system or not that kind of decibel level is gonna fuck you up when you're right next to it

Interesting...thought it was a bit fishy at the time, but my soundsystem knowledge wasn't all that so I thought maybe it was something to do with clarity of the stack that I wasn't aware of.
Might be worth giving him a Facebook shout about it...though didn't he kick off at Phrex when he suggested tying the stack down a bit more securely or something?

Imo if Vivek actually told you to not worry about plugs, he is a bit confused.
Decibel levels are decibel levels, you can`t reposition a stack of speakers to produce lower decibel levels.
A clean sound is one thing but at the volume and bass levels being used, it is inevitable that the sound will cause some kind of hearing issues.
You can reposition Bass stacks to focus the bass but that won`t reduce decibel levels.
The pressure alone of a large sub stack is enough to cause problems.
In the end earplugs will lower the decibels but still allow you to feel the sub.
It`s a perfect combo.
