Re: The things that pissed you off today ™ thread
I think it's a bit irresponsible to say you don't need earplugs...I know I definitely wish I had some, as by the stack, it hurt at some points.
Loud music is going to cause damage, regardless of who built the rig.

Next thing you know VIVEK will overuse the air horn.

Re: The things that pissed you off today ™ thread
word. pressure is pressure, doesn't matter how well the rig is balanced.Electric_Head wrote:Imo if Vivek actually told you to not worry about plugs, he is a bit confused.
Decibel levels are decibel levels, you can`t reposition a stack of speakers to produce lower decibel levels.
A clean sound is one thing but at the volume and bass levels being used, it is inevitable that the sound will cause some kind of hearing issues.
You can reposition Bass stacks to focus the bass but that won`t reduce decibel levels.
The pressure alone of a large sub stack is enough to cause problems.
In the end earplugs will lower the decibels but still allow you to feel the sub.
It`s a perfect combo.
that being said i'm still a dumbass for not still having proper earplugs and still always standing right in front of the stacks.

Earplugs are one of the most important thing for anyone who regularly goes to parties.
I even use them at pretty low volumes to avoid all hearing damage; even though you look a bit silly.
It pays off though, I never have ringing ears or whatever the day after.

Re: The things that pissed you off today ™ thread
the ones from boots never go in my ears properly and they're massively overpriced. i got like 20 pairs of decent construction worker ones off amazon for about 4 quid, which is a necessity because i live underneath someones washing machine.

I think everyone should stop blaming weed for being stupid.

Re: The things that pissed you off today ™ thread
Postman knocked on the door, woke me up. Finally received Gangsta 4 life which I'd bought 2 weeks ago. Yay.
Opened up the slightly mushy cardboard envelope, pulled out record. On closer examination, the mint record that I'd paid £7 extra for (£26 in total) was covered in cardboard fibres and several scratches. The sleeve was mangled (Ok so it was a white label and the white paper sleeves are a bit crap, I accept that). And when I took another look at the postage date, it'd only been sent on Saturday, which was the day after I complained that I hadn't received the record after 2 weeks.

Did VIVEK actually say that? Very odd.
Yeah, a badly balanced or overloaded system can get you at lower volumes... but the clearest system in the world will fuck up your ears if it's loud enough and your close enough. There's only so much vibration any material can take - your eardrums included... after a while, it doesn't matter how good the music is you're playing, it's a sonic weapon!
First night where I've ever felt an urgent need to NOT be by the stack, tbh... but it was so loud that it barely mattered.
Kay - Nightmare!

Yes, yes he did. I wandered back to the main entrance as my ears were starting to hurt a bit, saw security and asked if he had any earplugs, or where I could get them. VIVEK was stood next to him, and said "Nah mate, you don't need earplugs. I built the rig, and you don't need earplugs"

Oh dear. Still, I expect that's why he's a DJ and not a GP. Don't take medical advice from stoned musicians, people.

Was the system even tuned that well..?
Even if it was, like everyone else in here has said - loud is loud.
VIVEK can do whatever he wants to his own ears, but to tell other people they don't need earplugs is just irresponsible imo.
but whatever, respect to the man regardless

I used the dirt cheap construction ones, was by the stack all night. Ears where fine.
Whats worse, a bit of frequency loss at the time or ear damage for the rest of your life?
