DayZ: An open-world, perma-death zombie survival game

Post by Trichome » Tue May 15, 2012 8:57 pm

http://www.dayzmod.com/

This is absolutely bonkers.
Go on the website, check out some videos and be amazed.
Bear in mind that this is a mod for Arma II, so you need the full version of Arma II and Operation Arrowhead (https://store.bistudio.com/arma2-combined-operations)

Wow, I actually watched that whole video. This looks really interesting, might cop it at some point tho I'm not sure I have the patience for that kind of game. Definitely gonna be following the development of this.

Would a *ahem* cracked copy of Arma 2 work with it?

Sorry but I'm not gunna pay 30 quid just for the chance to play a Alpha of a mod.

This.

Does look pretty cool though, I think players going around killing others just to piss them off would get annoying though.

Thats what would make the game decent though. The zombies themselves look pretty non-threatening, its more the tension of taking a bullet to the skull at any given time and losing all youve earnt.

i have every intention of being the utmost 'orrible bastard if i ever get on it. Ambushing the unaware on the highway like in The Road.

permadeath encourages you think all your actions through thoroughly
played plenty of games with permadeath (including MMOs like Haven & Hearth with some DSF bros) where we experienced getting killed early on, then learned from it and eventually became a group of ruthless bastards doing the killing
It also it a much more immersive experience because you can relate to your character since if he gets shot in the head he's not just going to respawn, aka role playing which at their core, is what all games are

eventually gonna get on this when i have some spare cash to snag up the core games

from what i've heard it's like a fps fort zombie or project zomboid which can only mean good things

you can pick up both games for 20 quid at the bohemia website
also the game is being added to arma II in the next patch (bohemia directly support modders)

also there is talks that it will be ported over to arma 3 when it comes out

This looks awesome, but I'm pretty sure it'd involve not leaving the house for a couple of months after buying it.

Haven & Hearth was the one - so many well spent hours haha! I miss alpacastan :(.

DayZ is sick; been watching loads of streams on twitch.tv (site for live streaming of games)! Saw some blokes trying to find eachother for 2 hours; one on a boat and 2 others on foot; the guy on the boat just came around the corner then the guys on foot got sniped while they was hiding on a crane - was so jokes but frustrating!

When its dark; it gets terrifying; if my computer could run ARMAII i'd get it.

Yea I may cop it today, been meaning to get Arma 2 for ages (had the free version for awhile) just never had the cash when it was on sale or made it a priority.

edit: just broke down and bought arma 2 combined operations and all the dlc on steam for $50, so who wants to start a merry band of goons 8)

This does look quite interesting because of the permadeath aspect.
