Inconsistencies in Massive
Anyone else having weird inconsistencies with Massive? For example, I have a synth that randomly loses an oscillator or becomes very weak and almost non-existent. Then, all of a sudden it comes back and so on for my whole session. This has happened before with 3 sin waves used for sub. In a sense, it randomly "goes out" or loses power. I am running on Ableton Live 8.3 with a macbook pro. Any suggestions???

do you have any modulation going?

Re: Inconsistencies in Massive
are the sines detuned? they'll be phasing in and out, try using just one sine with no unison or processing.

Re: Inconsistencies in Massive
under the OSC tab check restart via gate. phasing between the oscillators is causing patterns of constructive and destructive interference.

I thought it was the detuned o/c too but it isn't. And no modulation really, just envelopes in massive. I am going to check the "restart via gate" tonight and I will let you guys know. Thank you!

Re: Inconsistencies in Massive
After checking restart via gate should I move any of the parameters directly below the check box?

Is it Cubase 5? Happens to me when I save / load some .cpr files with Nexus 'cos of Cubase not saving properly.

Re: Inconsistencies in Massive
most likely because of oscillators going in and out of phase, if you have more than one osc, likelyhood is its gonna happen. Try restarting via gate and then just experimenting with the osc phase's to try and get what you had. Sometimes its worth just restarting via gate before you start making the sound so that you know that your sound is safe from changing. A lot of the time though the sound will lose dynamics and become quite metallic sounding

Re: Inconsistencies in Massive
Out of curiosity, whats made you decide to use a 3 sine sub? if they arent detuned, are they spread across octave? if no, then what is the point?

Re: Inconsistencies in Massive
I rarely use restart cause it often gives the sound a weird attack and doesnt sound at all like the sound I was working on. Using it from scratch is another thing...
Re: Inconsistencies in Massive
I've found that mucking about with the various phases can give some really nice sounds that weren't there before, and often makes sounds a lot cleaner (less to EQ out)Eridu wrote:I rarely use restart cause it often gives the sound a weird attack and doesnt sound at all like the sound I was working on. Thats just the way massive is, has nothing to do with cracks or not.. One way to get around this is once your fully satisfied with your synth patch, dubplicate your midi notes a whole fuck load of times, bounce to audio, pick the portions that actually sound good and your done

Re: Inconsistencies in Massive
Yeah you get that comb filter effect when using unison and setting the oscs to restart, its because they're slowly drifting out of phase. I only use restart when i'm not using unison to avoid this effect.Eridu wrote:I rarely use restart cause it often gives the sound a weird attack and doesnt sound at all like the sound I was working on.
