lil silva / zomby bass sounds? (ableton)
hi all
I've been making a lot of grime-ish beats lately in Ableton but i'm having trouble getting the kind of bass sound that I really want. Can somebody help?
The kind of tracks i'm thinking of in particular are these melters:
Zomby - No
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tIFVkr6aSw
Lil Silva - Gobble That
http://soundcloud.com/lilsilva/gobble-that
I've been experimenting a lot but just can't get it right sadly. I love that big smeary bass sound on the zomby track (sounds like it has a ton of chorus on it or something?) and the lil silva one is just too hype, sounds like an 808 kick bass underneath a detuned synth bass or something? Dunno - i'm not very technically savvy to be honest so any help pointing me in the right direction towards these sounds would be very much appreciated. I don't want to rip them off, just want to know a way to achieve them in Ableton so I know the processes behind it and can get something similarly cool going myself.
BTW, I'm using Ableton Live 8 so ideally i'd like to know how to get these kind of sounds using Operator or something.
Cheers much, x

Hate to admit I have no idea how Zomby gets that metallic which house synth - Salem uses it a lot too. But that lil silva synth is really really weird. I'm pretty confident it is just a distorted saw/sine. The lead/squeak part is automating resonance really creatively to make a melody. I've made that sound on accident many times but never thought to use it like that.

the zomby tune sounds like a squarewave tbh, definitely try chorusing and a bit of distortion with some squarewaves.

i've been getting similar sounds to Zomby lately just with variations of square waves, chorus and reverb and nothing more, the slightest tweak on massive can change the sound a lot though

lil silva one is probably ring modulation or oscillator sync. probably the former tho
