Whoever they go for, they won't be happy in 12 months time. Liverpool are a much smaller club than their level of support suggests these days... they need slightly lower expectations or some Man City/Chelski style cash.southstar wrote:They might as well go for Hansen with Lawrenson as his assistant.
Not sure who there even is available at the moment
Can't say I'll be sad to see the back of his whining face from MOTD...

fucking shit news
smaller in what sense Magma surely you judge the size of a club by their support?

Smaller was an awkward term though... I just didn't want to use "worse" because that would've sounded nasty and it wasn't supposed to be a dig. Liverpool aren't a "prestige" club particularly anymore though - they have an enormous fan base largely gained in the 70s, 80s and early 90s - the thing about football fans is that they stick for life. Liverpool will have an enormous fan base for the forseeable future because kids from the glory days have still got decades left to live, but fans from 1980 don't make them a better football club or business in 2012 - I'd be surprised if they're picking up anywhere near as many new fans (i.e. customers) each year as teams like Man Utd/City, Chelsea, Spurs or even Newcastle.
I've got an awful lot of time for Liverpool... my parents are part-time supporters after meeting at Uni there and I love to see them do well, but sacking their manager for finishing 8th and getting to an FA Cup final this season shows that egos and expectations are too high over there... 8th was a pretty fair position for Liverpool this year; the only team above them that they really should have placed higher than was Everton.

Re: The SNH Football thread
I'd have been fine with worse as I think it's more appropriate
I think Leeds are a bigger club than those mentioned but I also think they are significantly poorer run and have been since Risdale's day. I think Liverpool has also been subject to prolonged poor running, we under-invested in the earlier part of the 00's then sold to a leveraged purchase and had massive money diverted to the interest payments resulting in us being a couple of days from administration in 2010.
Our expectations in terms of the league I think are largely reasonable, we should have been able to compete for 4th but didn't. Where our expectations may have been unrealistic is to expect Dalglish to be able to come in after time out of the game and adjust to the pressures and challenges immediately. Most Liverpool supporters were in favour of him remaining having copped a bit late that this season was a massive adjustment.
The fans I don't think wanted him to go I think the decision was specifically with the owners who'd been vocal about wanting 4th in order to comply with Financial Fair Play.
They spent a lot of money relatively and had little return in the league which formed what I believe was a naive decision to sack him especially after getting shut of their DoF in Commoli. That I have no idea who is advising them on the football side of things though Barwick Dein and others have been suggested but I have no confidence in them getting the right man in.

Liverpool need to sort themselves out. They've relied on Gerrard for too long and now he's in his twilight years. Time to realise there's eleven players on the pitch now, bring in a manager that knows the transfer market, and sort it out nah sunshine.

I want both of them to win... guess I'm pulling for Blackpool a little harder because of Holloway. He needs to be back on MOTD ASAP.southstar wrote:Come on the blackpool

Yeah, fuck Big Sam. He's just a budget northern Harry Redknapp (and I'm not exactly 'arry's biggest fan to begin with).
Blackpool were so entertaining to watch last season too, would be great to have them back in the PL

Thats an insult to Arry. I see him more as a ferguson wannabe. Got fed up of him seconding every complaint/feud fergie has. The only reason I would want big sam back in the PL is if rafa goes back to liverpool - they used to hate each other and it was quiet fun seeing rafa wind him up.

Yeah, it was a bit. Oh well. Nice to have West Ham back where they belong.

wounded for Blackpool there. Really impressed they got there today tho. Thought they might of been one of those teams that dropped off the face of the earth after being relegated..
on the other hand..
Ohhhhh Bayern Munich! They'll win it 5 times!

Re: The SNH Football thread
I did my usual and spread-bet.
I really want the 4-3 for Bayern to come in... 150/1,
+ an entertaining game + Bayern win = YES.
4-2 for Chelski to win was 200/1 though...
Torres to score first and Chelsea to win 2-1 was 70/1
too. Tasty.
