You don't think 8th graders should get phones?

i made a basic app for my soundcloud, u can check it out here http://alistairr.mobapp.at/ after being bored inbetween production and seeing an advert for it on soundcloud lol...

obviously my one is a lot more simplier then the one required for the dsf- this would probably need a re-design with big chunky buttons and helpful text locations etc. but its not rocket science. i think an app would help bring in some revenue for the site, maybe be price it at 1 pound and c what happens

If the only issue is with the ads, why not make a 99p app without ads?

this comes up every few months, last time it was said someone was TRYING to sort something (don't quote me on this)

but i think a bit of the issue with it was different phones etc etc..

how often are you going too go on DSF when your not at your computer?

surely mobile internet is suffice for the hopefully short amount of time, but yeah, an app would be relatively cool. would buy.

We've been looking for solutions to mobile DSF for years. Four big issues that make it silly at the moment.

1. Mobile companies cannot agree on one coding format. (flash,java,html,html5,symbian,windows7). We don't want to exclude anyone by virtue of their device, and the best app's out there for this forum's coding only cater to specific devices (iphone/android) and BB, Nokia and others get excluded. This is not even mentioning the issue that the app's out there crash frequently.

2. DSF uses dynamic banners which change constantly. All of the current apps out there use static banners.

3. Its nice to think that members would consider buying an app for the forum, but lets not get dreamy about these ideas. Only 1/4 of the people would pay for it, and any app we create would be uploaded to a torrent on day one of release. We're not stupid. We're not going to pay someone serious money to develop our own apps, only to have it fileshared. Coding costs would need to be recouperated.

4. None of the apps out there do language translation properly, nor geolocation properly. As a global forum, we don't want to exclude people, so we're also waiting for dynamic translation to get better. The idea being that DSF would automatically language translate to whereever your log in point would be. Thats coming soon hopefully, but not ready today

All that said, don't be surprised when we do make some forum updates shortly. Things are in the works.
