THIS IS DUBSTEP is a brand new monthly event dedicated to showcasing the finest local and international talent in bass music. For our special launch edition, we sought to seek out the finest local acts featuring a variety of different flavours in dubstep. Headlining the night will be local legend HYDEE, with support from 'fresh-off-tour' TRYPT, young up-and-comer TONKS and his buddy COMING IN STATIC, SUNDRIPS and JEAN MARKO.

Deemed one of the hardest working dj’s / promoters in the Toronto dubstep scene, playing alongside Rusko, Caspa, Skream & Benga, Datsik, Excision, Bassnectar, Doctor P, Flux Pavilion, Nero, Dj Zinc, Skrillex, Borgore, Skism, Crissy Criss, Roksonix, Funtcase, Downlink, Cookie Monsta just to name a few, this man's tireless efforts never disappoint and always seem to impress. Expect nothing but a stellar bassed-out set full of grimey beats and double drops to make you dance all night.

Since his rise to prominence in early 2011, Trypt has been an unstoppable force within the international dubstep community. It all started when Skrillex posted Trypt’s remix of his well-known club anthem, “All I Ask of You”, to his personal Facebook page. The post started an online frenzy that has led to well-received DJ sets alongside the best electronic producers in the world such as Mt. Eden, Nero, Zed’s Dead, and J Rabbit. Fresh off of the European “Chaos Theory” tour, he is currently working on his debut EP of the same name, which will be released in late 2012.

ToNks has been making waves in the local dubstep scene for well over a year. With a solid release under his belt, remixes and another EP on the way, ToNks' catchy and melodic trancey spin to dubstep has been garnering a loyal online following. With forthcoming releases on the way on Abducted Records, expect big tracks and an energetic live set from this young up-and-coming talent.

Joash started Coming in Static as a fulled fledged power pop / electro band, with some success. After a suggestion made by Underground Operations A&R Mark Spicoluk during their disBAND audition, Joash decided to make the project a solo affair, focusing solely on the electronic elements of the music.
Working tirelessly on his craft, Coming in Static evolved into the club worthy sounds it is now. Drawing upon influences from electronic artists as diverse as Owl City to Skrillex, Joash has found a niche creating incredibly melodic, and vocal heavy songs that have the power to shake even the loudest clubs.
In March 2011, Coming in Static’s remix of “Break it Up” by These Kids Wear Crowns was released on EMI records through the band’s iTunes version of their debut album “Jumpstart”.
JEAN MARKO (Electropolis)

Gracing the decks well before the rise of popularized dubstep, Jean Marko started off playing shows at The Social, Mod Club, Loft, and having countless hours of experience spinning parties in the city he showcases his intuitive dancefloor oriented skills in every set he drops.

With drive and determination that can move mountains and his own unique blend of dubstep, SunDrips has fashioned a DJ career out of little else but sheer will and wobbles. Bringing countless crowd pleasing remixes to his home venues, Nocturne & Detour. He is surely a name to watch in the world of dubstep, fans eagerly await the debut of his production career.
