Nah you didn't, but i'm glad you did now! :Q:

Just listened to this in the related videos, i dont normally like this hardcore stuff as it always had a "unwashed squatters on ket" vibe to it, but this is dank

Also, that remix is massive!

TOA is always good. Listening a lot to their slower broodier stuff lately. Even been making some shit like that today.

I think you'd like this.. though it's a DJ Hidden production and I think you're into him anyway.

Been looping that Goto 10 remix spatial posted since yesterday (never heard it before, assume it's new?) and i've been thinking - what makes Broken Note so unique? Why aren't we just calling it dub/brostep? I mean, all the breakless, steady tunes (not like Flood, Bad Acid, The Fury etc. ) are sort of like "dungeon" tunes made 5x darker and heavier, but with enough midrange that purists would dismiss it, and i don't really get it how i know it's not dubstep... it's sort of halfway between Therapy Sessions stuff and Youngsta stuff and i can't believe nobody else had done it before! I guess the closest likeness i can think of is Chasing Shadows, with the reeses and the dark ambience, but CS still do something that boxes them into a genre. I dont know, i couldn't really describe their sound to people apart from "heavy dubstep yeahhh" but that doesn't really do it justice because of people's pre-concieved conceptions, and it is and it isn't, it's deceptively simple.

-q- -q- -q-

Just realised as i typed that that Broken Note are one of my favourite acts of all time, huh... I sort of want to find them and congratulate them, i didn't have anyone to go with, kicking myself now as i should of have just gone on my one...

He played one of my parties once and I chilled with the guy, had some weed on his hotel room and talked music and its so.. unique (well, I do hear Vex'd in there tbh) because he doesn't like dubstep or garage or anything. I told him myself that his stuff reminded me more of like a slowed down SPL and he was like 'oh yeah bang on'.

I think he's just a dnb producer with a thing for metal (he mentioned being into Pantera too) and while he didn't specifically say it, I think the 140 stuff sounds the way it does because he wanted to recreate that sludge/NOLA groove. And with 140 being such a dominant bpm, I think it was easy for him to get it released.

That's cool, but i'm pretty sure it's two people: Eddie ( a.k.a Kidnappa from 16-bit) and this other guy Tommy. So i guess they took his love of metal and D'n'B and his (presumed) love of dubstep/grime/hip-hop and found some godly middle-ground. In fact: http://www.last.fm/music/Broken+Note the bio sort of gives an explanation of sorts.

It's still a difficult sound to decipher despite sounding so familiar - all those artists (minus BN of course) that i posted in the OP of this thread have really unique sounds, design and concepts but i can describe them much better. I guess if i need to describe them to someone, i'll just have to assume they're familiar with SPL

Naw, Kidnappa left a long ass time ago over creative differences. Tommy's really into breakcore, metal, dnb and jungle. Not really dubstep. Like for example 'Meltdown'? That's all Tommy.

Btw. Both my favorite SPL tune and the best example of how similar their shit can be.

And this should be what every breakcore producer strives to make:

The sampling, drum programming, songwriting and evolution of the song.... THOSE KICKS in the second half. Cottdang. -.-

Yo, i didn't know it was just Tommy now. So is all of Terminal Static just him? Well i guess not the Peace Off/ Damage releases.

Also, gonna snap up that Death EP, really felt that tune and never actually given SPL a proper listen. That Abelcain tune is also fucking quality, will get that one too. Which other Abelcain releases do you ?

And yeah, i know you and Ultraspatial (it's basically just us that post in this thread lol) are more into the hardcore/dnb ravey stuff, but what do you guys think of stuff like this?

Glitchy, home listening stuff is probably my favourite music, wish i did a better job repping it on this thread! Would people, such as yourself, who have been around breakcore longer than i and are more knowledgeable, even call this breakcore? Kind of hard to find my favourite tunes on Youtube unfortunately.

I love Datach'i actually, and it's breakcore to me :D Access to Arasaka not so much, not really into that sorta thing. I'm not really into "skullstep"/crossbreed though. Not anymore at least. Used to be heavy into that stuff up until 2010. I'm more into the Metalheadz/Critical/Shogun/Blackout/Exit etc sound.

Broken Note are favourites of mine too. Always viewed them as dubstep/dnb/breakcore, never got why some people say it's brostep. And yeah, Ive always heard a Vex'd influence in their/his tunes.

I listen to pretty much everything in moderation. Just like how most crossbreed is lame 4x4 hardcore with a Current Value snare on the 2 and 4, there's very little of it that's mad cool but I love that cool. Same with anything in the 'hardcore music' spectrum.

And yeah I like Datach'i the most out of those. Especially his stuff on 'Black Trees'. Glitchy drums is what I mostly do in my music and what GOT me into producing the first place. I just try to give it sort of a Bloody Fist'esque rawness. But yeah, like anything, moderation and finding the good stuff is key. Because most of that type of stuff is a poor 2001 era Drukqs knock-off, which sounds dated as hell.

Bah, the Flashbulb is my top producer, anyway.

fully agree with this, actually lots of stuff in the Ruff catalog sounds more Vex'd-ish than bro to me

Yeah, Flashbulb is sick! Such a diverse range of sounds although the fact that he's produced so much kind of makes his older stuff, where i guess he wasn't at the top of his production game, seem a bit stale. Arboreal is more my thing.

I get what you mean about a lot of the glitch stuff sounding like Drukqs knock offs, and personally i'm not even into analoguey stuff, but the bigger annoyance of mine is how a lot of it is just Venetian Snares Jr. He's good and prolific enough that we dont need anybody imitating him!

Also that Totally Normal tune is what i need more of in my life, respect for the link!

ultraspatial: yeah, definitely not saying this = vex'd

i just find too bad that this would be automatically classed as "bro" by most people when i dont think its comparable to, say the stuff thats released on rottun or circus

Everything he does is original, immaculate and fucking expressive. Like even when he's on a pop'ish tip or borders wobbly filth, he'll manage to make it insane.

And one of my favorite garage tunes;
