Question About NI Massive

Post by OfficialDAPT » Mon Jun 04, 2012 4:06 pm

Is the dimensional expander in Massive mono-safe? What I mean is that if a song is switched to mono, will a massive patch with dimensional expander on it still sound good?

I have and I can't tell if it's losing volume or that's just how mono sounds. A non-sarcastic answer would be nice once in awhile though...

That wasn't sarcasm. You need to judge for yourself. They're your tracks, you have to be the decider.

It was sarcastic because you aren't answering my question. Why would I post this if I haven't tried it myself? I'm looking for insight of others not someone telling me to do what I've already done.

Ok then, does the dimensional expander sound good in mono?

Its a stereo effect. So if you put it on an element (like a low/mid bassline) that you will later switch to mono then it will lose some of its presence and, obviously, its width. How much it looses depends entirely on what sound you are using it on, what level of wet/dry you have on the dimension expander itself and how high in the mix the particular element is.

In all honesty though, and I know its not what you want to hear, Noways is correct. It really comes down to if you like the way it sounds or not as the phrase "will it sound good?" is entirely subjective.

It sounds OK... All the stereo width is gone of course so the whole track sounds a little flat to me. Telling if the volume relative to everything else is the same in stereo and mono is the part I'm having trouble with.

It would be nice if you just didn't post in the first place though.
