Probably the most important point here. As a small indie label owner - If you've got the time, energy and contacts to activiely exploit the publishing of your artists then cool, do it yourself. But be warned it's not that easy getting your artists music played TV and adverts etc. For a start you have to have good contacts in the sync industry. Not only that, i can't image Coki's Tortured as light hearted bed for a shampoo advert. But there is an application for dubstep - games, films (we all know about Digital Mystikz and the Children of Men film) etc. You will just have to be open minded.

If you're artist's are happy for you to hold onto the Publishing then cool, otherwise try and get a deal. Or just register with PRS for the time being and if you're any good, people will start approaching you.
bang on - once you have a useful body of work, and have made a name for yourself outside of an underground scene, then you may find the entertainment/mdeia industry approaches you for synchs, for example Tectonic, DMZ and Kode9 in Children of Men as Markle says. At this point, you can consider publishing works before making it available for synchs. A publishing group, e.g. Westbury or Bucks Music can do this for you, or can act as a sub-publisher if you publish your own work - they will then spend the time pushing your catalogue and will also handle the legal side.


Other than that, it's a pretty pointless venture as companies which might use your music just won't have heard of you, and hence won't be interested or give you the time of day.


I might be talking rubbish btw, this is just what I have gleaned from others...anyone with better industry knowledge please feel free to correct me. :4:
