anyone know of any good Apricot IPAs? I tried the Sam Adams whitewater recently and really enjoyed the concept, but surely there are better ones out there... I'm guessing the Dogfish Head one is the way to go?

Of course this thread gets bumped the week I've been sick as fuck and craving good beer. Couldn't even keep water down until recently.

Anyone know of a good beer for when you're ill? Something room temp I'd guess, maybe a barley wine I can crawl to the liquor store for.

i stashed a bottle of the new Conflux No.1 collab between Deschutes & Hair of the Dog titled Collage, while at work this evening. its an 11.6% malt beverage blend of the Dissident, Stoic and Fred and Adam beer aged in rye, bourbon, sherry, cognac, pinot noir, new american oak, and new oregon oak barrels.

i poured the beer into a 10 ounce snifter glass at a temperature that was slightly cooler than room, letting the flavors really shine. when pouring, very little head was present, however the color was a dull caramel foam. the body of the beer itself was a dark mahogany cedar brown. the nose emanating from it gave me immediate thoughts of a sweet fig jam, tobacco, tart plum and heavy oak- very complex. the taste? by taste alone, its ranking beer of the year for me. it has a perfect balance of sweet and sour with lots of fruit ranging from dried cherries, apricot, and fig with a strong yet not overpowering flavor of oak which has resulted from the different barrel aging processes. the texture of the beer has a medium body, which is surprisingly awesome. this kind of beer, in my opinion is expected to have a much more rich body than this lighter, more elegant brother or sister of the heavier kind. also the carbonation gives this beer a delicate crispness that helps cut the heaviness helping to balance all the different characteristics of it. after the beer travels down your throat into your belly, the beer's remnants of flavor stay within your mouth for a good period of time, before you feel compelled to take another sip. i hope one of you get your hands on one of these beauties, they are not cheap. i paid 12 dollars for one, and its a 12 ounce bottle. however, i think its worth it.

also it says on the side of the bottle, "best after 04/30/2013" suggesting that you age it for a year before drinking it for best results.

Did anyone here try Adnams diamond jubilee ale? I expected it to be some shit, quickly knocked up once-use stuff, and while I dunno if its going to be seen again, that shit was actually the total bomb! Recommended if you can find a pub thats still got some left (check any mitchel and butlers pubs nearby, if you can bear to go into a mitchels and butlers place...soulless giant corporate stnuc they are. They need to pay me more...)

Have recently tried Kwak which was strong (8.4%) but really really tasty and smooth for a strong beer


Also had Brooklyn Sorachi Ace on draft, again its pretty strong (7.6%) but was lighter (bit like a pils) than I expected, very pungent taste, I respect it but probably not one I would have again

kwak is awesome, i have had the amber on draft. so is brooklyn brewing, but since im in the southwest, our state does not get distribution for the brewery, so my experience with their selection has been limited. what i have had however is really good. usually i drink their beer in the form of a gift from friends from the other side of the country who visit.

the new "positive contact" ale collab between dogfish head and dan the automator. a 9% abv ale brewed with fuji apple cider, slow roasted farro, a bit of cayenne and fresh cilantro. best part though is the 10" record with new bits from deltron 3030 and a bunch of recipes from many elite chefs including mario batali and james syhabout all over the cover.

i tasted the beer this evening after work. the only thing besides the fuji apples i tasted when drinking this ale was the cayenne. it had a little heat on the finish, but i desired more. there was really no cilantro flavor present which made me disappointed. the fuji apple cider was pretty prevalent, but it tasted like a weak ephemere from unibroue by that characteristic alone. the farro you could not taste--its presence was completely masked by the other flavors. roasted farro should produce a nutty flavor, nothing i found about this beer had a nutty flavor. all in all, dogfish head makes some of my favorite beers on the planet. but this beer rates about a 6/10. the record and recipes on the other hand put a big smile on my face... these parts of the beer outweighed the beer itself, unfortunately. there is a lot of beers that tastes just like this--a good belgian single with a bit of sweetness and body that does not cost you 15 bucks.
