video to accompany my music

Post by Wikum » Mon Jun 11, 2012 1:03 am

i'm in the process of putting together a ten minute piece of music and i've been thinking that it would be a nice touch to get someone to make a video to go along with it.

has anyone got any ideas as to where i could find someone who would be interested in doing that kind of collaboration (my music, their video) online? like a forum or something? i'm looking for someone that makes the kind of videos that suit dark electronic music. depending on the person (and how skilled i thought they were), i'd be open to them having the full artistic say in what's actually in the video....but i'd prefer to have some say.

obviously i have considered that i'd most likely have to pay for it. then again, if i'm lucky i might find an aspiring film maker/video editor that isn't so concerned about the money part. i was just curious if anyone on here has done something similar.

Go to the local arts/media college in your town and ask to put up a notice on their bulletin board;

"Music producer requires video/graphics to accompany electronic piece. No fee, but chance to showcase material. Please contact - you@your-email.com"

You'll get a couple of replies off that at the very least.

Get a second hand Flip camera and do it yourself...hell use your phone...there are free/simple video editing programs out their. Though I'm sure there are some video/art students who'd love some *good* free music to go with a piece in their portfolio.

EDIT: Collabs are cool...but I really miss the DIY, guerrilla, punk aesthetic of EDM...do it all yourself with what you have to the best of your ability...at the end of the day I think you'll end up with a more unique product.

@samurai: I do not live in a techno metropolis...I live in a dying city that wishes it made more tires... :) better inspiration I think ;p

yea exactly. i'm hoping that using my music for free in their portfolio will end up being a selling point.

i agree...just this time, i want to try going down this route. i will do it myself for a different project at some point (i could even borrow a canon 5d mark II for it).

Yeahh dude totally go for it youself if you have a 5D Mark II! I recently started doing video clips for musicians as a profession with some of my friends. Doing mainly Dutch Hiphop acts right now but we've just did a couple of clips with some quite big Hiphop artists here in the Netherlands. Also we're growing bigger and bigger in terms of gear: we now have a full video/photo/audio studio that we can buildup on location to shoot videos. Just as an indication we just did this video with the two biggest drummers of our country together with the Dutch Hiphop group Zegevier, we used over 100 meters of XLR cables. :P

This is the end result:

So yeahh do it yourself mate, this was the third video we did and I'm happy with the results. Last weekend we filmed the next clip which features three more darker Hiphop MC's, so the next clip will look more like a Horror movie hahaa.. We even had some chick doing wounds, bruises and other makeup.

Just some screens of the next clip:

So this is all guerrilla style video making, just going to a location with all the gear and doing the video. We like abandoned and derelict buildings... ^^

nice. for this particular project, i want some kind of abstract video that kind of "moves with the music" if you get what i mean....and i think that with my very limited video skills (as of right now), i'd be better off finding someone that can make this project look as professional as possible. i will definitely move into doing my own videos at some point though.

That sounds you're looking for an animation rather than filmed video if I don't get you wrong. Yeahhh I could do it but I'm very short on time with my tutorial videos and own productions lately so sorry can't help ya with that. Good luck finding someone though. Really start looking for an art related student, which doesn't has to be in your hometown, I mean use the internet, there might be somebody on there willing to make something. Try registering at a forum about animation and video, maybe those guys like your project. Just an idea... :)

thanks for the help though. :4:

ARTFX - those videos are sick.

And like he said..

If you can borrow a 5D - do it yourself!! Have fun with it, doesn't have to be done in one day and you got loads of time to shape the idea.

If you want animation; theres LOADS of students crying out for some work for their portfolio.

I actually do video on the side when I'm not producing EDM. If you want some samples of my work let me know! It might be really cool to collaborate
