Yeah big up Jesus for dying for our sins and netting us a public holiday in the process.

proposing some criteria for world's greatest dj:

1.tall enough to be seen over booth (sorry Phaelah, Yunx)
2.can wear sunnies all night & still read labels
3.acts busy while playing pre-recorded mixes off CD/SD card/USB without audience twigging
4.only applies headphones to deaf ear & eschews monitors, confident of innate perfection
5.capacity to drink & drug for 3 days straight & still play a shit set
6.good-looking in a campy sort of way (bloke) or wears skimpy black dress (femme)
7.has just been where you were thinking of going
8.leaves promoters thinking he's a good guy after overcharging them & using up there whole stash
9.hooks up with best producers for collabs
10.is believed when he/she says they only play shit tracks because that's what the punters want

now that would be worth watching

That interview with Tiesto is gruesome:

Just like older generations remain fond of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, do you think in a few decades' time today's youth will still love dance music into their retirement?
"No, I think it will be different. The old people 30 years from now will still love the older songs they recognise, but dance music is so young and consumerist that after a few months you get tired of it. Even if you hear it a couple of years later you're like, 'Hmmm, I'm not sure'. I always like to listen to new music and I don't really like to listen to old tracks."

i was never around for dubstep, but I've DLed a handful of classic rinse and Radio1 mixes from around 2006 and i gotta say i love every fucking tune on those. By comparison, the bro and dungeon releases, the emo shoegaze shit, from James Blake to JDevil i think is almost all a bunch of garbage that just inevitably resulted from the good shit.

All i'm saying is i think in dubstep, there are timeless tunes that are just fucking amazing no matter when they're getting dropped, and ought to never stop getting plays
then again, dubstep really isn't "dance music" in the same way stuff Guetta plays is

Cowell and the TV producers must not know the fucking difference between a DJ and a producer though.

What is this 'emo shoegaze shit' you're chatting about?

I'm pretty sure we all agree that this is whack.

I kind of agree... but it's only fairly recently been the case imo. 10 years ago tracks seemed to stick around much much longer. I don't think there was nearly as many tunes coming out though.

I just found that question and response weird because probably a lot of people are retired now who were listening to techno or house 30 years ago and I know a lot of them still enjoy the tunes.
