Minimoog/analog vintage synth replication with a VST?

Okay of course most of us love boards of canada's warm and nostalgiac analog synths. And if you know BoC then you probably know Tycho.. I for one LOVE all of Tycho's leads that he used in his Dive album, even though they're all fairly similar, just tweaked for the different songs. They just sound amazzzzing to me. Now I know Tycho owns a Minimoog and that's what he uses for these leads. Is it possible to get these kinds of sounds (link at bottom of paragraph) digitally? Trust me I would kill to have a minmoog but I don't have thousands of dollars to blow on a vintage synth. I've read people say that some of it has to do with frequencies or something being mapped to the keyboard so they maintain harmonics or something as you scale the keyboard, I hear slight distortion on the sounds as well...

I know there has to be some of you that have tried to capture that nostalgiac BoC/Tycho sound. (call tycho a copycat if you want, but he does the style well). Is it just not possible without analog/degrading audio using tapes?

Looking into getting it now. I should be able to get pretty close to the sounds i'm going for ehh? Might just have to do some extra fx processing like saturation or w/e? But that was to be expected

get arturia's moog modular instead... it's way more versatile and the soft clipping sounds rly good, probably my favorite synth (but i also have lots of experience with patching modular gear and if you don't this will probably be kind of frustrating at first)

If I was after "warm and nostalgic", I'd start off by looking at what sort of chords / scales they're using and how their melodies work. Then think about what sort of sounds and how to program them, and only then worry about whether you need to go outside the box or not...

A keyboard controller so you end up with a 'live' feel to your synths rather than having everything on beat might help, though.

Yeah I understand what you're getting at. And that's very true, but in this case a lot of it definitely comes the analog hardware from what i've seen/read. I usually don't have a problem figuring out what scales/chords people are using in their tracks though. Usually the program Mixed In Key is right and tells me the key, then i just put a midi effect for that scale in front of the vst and jam away. I know, it's cheap.

I'd also look at DIVA, as well as a ROMpler like Trilogy/Omnisphere for actual Moog multisamples that you can play.
Significant amounts of processing though, even with the Moog.

I've noticed that the preset under G Darcey called Moogirific is pretty close, but not quite there. Really gonna have to take some time to learn this synth. I just hate how tiny everything is within the plugin, shits hard to see. I feel like it may have to do with something with a frequency filter or some other parameter that reacts to the keys as as you go up and down the keyboard. I'm sure with the right tweaks and processing we should be able to get pretty close. I just still don't know this synth well (it's still very fun to use, makes some sick sounds even with my small amount of knowledge on the vst)

I use Rhino 2 with the Moog emulation packs.
It's a pretty effective moog emulation because it uses the same waveforms.

not an emulation per se, but it seriously kicks butt soundwise. top notch filters and oscillators.

Tyrell N6 is also serious stuff.
