Second, I actually agree a whole lot with that, I never stopped to think about it like that but doing remixes for the first year or so of producing absolutely helped me get chops in in terms of writing progressions, parts etc., I'm sure this goes for the majority of new electronic producers.PatrickReza wrote:hahahah whats wrong with remixes? i think everyone should start out remixing. they really help you learn how to find melodies and learn how to work with different parts of songs, vocals, organic instruments, etc and now that i'm developed enough in production i have a full length original album, but remixes really did help me get where i am today technically.Filthzilla wrote:Haha I was gunna help then I realised you're a remix whore.
Sorry for going off topic again, I really do wish I had an idea for you but metallic sound design like that is not my specialty.i look at DSF as a literal "forum" to bounce ideas off one another and keep all of us growing and evolving. About the remixes, it's definitely proven to be an effective method. I mean look at pretty much any famous EDM artist. Dare i say his name, but even skrillex started off making remixes.
Cheers! <---(I'm not from Britain but I love that word.
haha
I don't have much to offer on that sound..
But I'm digging your remixes! Any tips on remixing songs you'd pass over? I've never attempted it really.. Only done some original stuff.. I'd appreciate it ;D'
Sia - Breathe Me remix is awesome. Cheers! (I'm from America, and I love saying that shit as well, lol )'
Loving the High for This one the most though! Has a nice Pop sound at the beginning, haha.
Need help with two Zeds Dead type effects

That was one of only a few remixes I've EVER done.Climax wrote:PatrickReza wrote:just checked your soundcloud. you did a somebody that i used to know remix? seriously? and YOU are calling ME a WHORE? that is by far the WHORIEST song to remix EVER.Filthzilla wrote:Haha I was gunna help then I realised you're a remix whore.

Pretty much every single track of yours in a remix.

I made this purely so I had a dance version to play out in the clubs.
Re: Synth Help! Zeds Dead
You really have no idea? I actually thought your sig was quite close to the zedsdead sound tbhGrimenoceros wrote:I'll tell you how to make that sound as soon as you tell us how to get that many plays/followers on your tracks :O (kidding about the sound, I have no idea lol, but seriously, how? I could really use that sort of promotion...)

Also on the "remix whore" note, i see what he means as my mates most popular songs are all remixes and he seems to only do remixes now due to that factor alone, which i think is a shame because its easier for a remix to get popular than an original (obviously depending on your fanbase).
Dont get me wrong, i love your remixes, i just wanted to get the other point across.
As for the sound (and sorry for this) but i honestly have no clue. I mean for all we know, he could have just resampled a sound he made himself, in which case this sound could be impossible to create using software - though i doubt it, just an idea though?

I still think you just can't make the sound.Filthzilla wrote:That was one of only a few remixes I've EVER done.Climax wrote:PatrickReza wrote:just checked your soundcloud. you did a somebody that i used to know remix? seriously? and YOU are calling ME a WHORE? that is by far the WHORIEST song to remix EVER.Filthzilla wrote:Haha I was gunna help then I realised you're a remix whore.

Haha ehhh, I guess vaguely. I appreciate the listen and the compliment though! (technically a compliment right?Trollah wrote:You really have no idea? In that case, to PatricReza, if you like the sound I used in the track in my sig and think it could give you a general starting point, I'd be happy to share. Honestly I haven't listened to this tune he referenced in forever, I bet if I add a ton of distortion and layer it with a higher frequency, sharp attack env and detuned metallic noise it would sound close.

I reckon thatd be hella close to what Patrick is asking forGrimenoceros wrote:In that case, to PatricReza, if you like the sound I used in the track in my sig and think it could give you a general starting point, I'd be happy to share. The wobble has a sort of high start then a lower part, sort of close to the sounds which can be achieved with the bandreject filter <-- this wouldn't be anywhere near, it can just do the high start then boingy lower bit.
Also this isn't that important but possible small tweaks which might help:
- pitch cutoff with the smallest amount (or just a slightly detuned filter like 0.08).
- also that bit under the filters (filter modulation i think?), that can help get the twangy sound (i think maybe the phase on 2 and muck about with the level?)
- Carbon filter with the wt-position all the way to the left
Just some ideas, they might not even sound close xD

Patrick - just an FYI, seeing as this thread is at least the 4th that you'd started about Zed's Dead sounds in one form or another, they've all been merged together to keep things tidy.

hey man just gave your tune (in your sig) a listen btw how did you make that godly rev up wobble at 1:11 the one that goes wuhwuuuuuh right before the main stab wobblez?Trollah wrote:Grimenoceros wrote:In that case, to PatricReza, if you like the sound I used in the track in my sig and think it could give you a general starting point, I'd be happy to share. Oh all that was was the Carbon (1 osc) preset in massivePatrickReza wrote:hey man just gave your tune (in your sig) a listen btw how did you make that godly rev up wobble at 1:11 the one that goes wuhwuuuuuh right before the main stab wobblez?Trollah wrote:Grimenoceros wrote:In that case, to PatricReza, if you like the sound I used in the track in my sig and think it could give you a general starting point, I'd be happy to share. I gave it a shot, this is what I got after a little while. it's still not very close but it's got a similar vibe

Thats really good man! I looked back through the thread and someone actually posted details for how to make the sound almost exactly.
He put a delay on and set it to 1ms to 2ms with 60% feedback and 70% dry/wet and it sounded really good! Also highpass at the start.
Perhaps this, aswell as what you're doing might sound good? (perhaps not the same, but just really nice?)

Re: Synth Help! Zeds Dead
LolMentalJunk wrote:Basically, the trick is into the delay, the massive patch is pretty much covered by the sound of the delay (about 70% dry wet in the delay).
I made a patch in massive, I don't think the oscillators I chose matter much, as I'm not an expert for Massive oscillators (I used a Groan IV in bend + that give mid bass to the sound, a melofant in bend - for mid highs and a roughmath III with formant type waveform to add a nice high end, and phase at -12 in the mod osc applying to the groan IV). For the wobbling part I used a daft filter with little resonance controlled by a LFO. Then I used Classic Tube (30%,30%), a Dim Expander (30%,0%), EQ to boost a little the high shelf. I feedbacked the sound a little to add fullness, and a sine shaper with full drive, little drywet.
I think that's all into massive, then I added a delay in ableton, left and right side are linked, feedback around 60%, drywet around 70%, and modulate the time to add movement: in the first sound, it's going from 1ms to 2ms, it' might not be the best one so you have to try severeal to find one modulation that pleases you
Finally, basic high pass going downward at the beginning of the first sound, pitch bend downard too, then I have cut every frequency under 140 Hz, and added a nice sine/square sub to have a clearer sound (it's having the same pitch bend downward at the beginning of the first note, to give it a nice pumping feel).
But that's what I have done, it's just me experiencing, and it's not meant to be a perfect way of how to do the zeds dead synth, I don't feel like I'm mastering everything I used in that sound, so follow it as an example and make it your own with your personal tastes of making a patch !
Hope I was clear enough to be understood, english isn't my mother language at all
