[WIP] First dubstep/brostep song

Post by captain » Tue Jun 26, 2012 9:28 am

Hi!
I'm new here.. I'm a 16y/o musician (all kind of styles) from France and I recently wanted to discover a bit more dubstep/brostep.
So may I present you my first listenable production (I called it "Round 1" because it make me remind of a boxing club (don't search an explanation)) :
Soundcloud

I'm currently working on it (it is absolutely not finished), but if you could give me your advice/feeling/tips/etc.... it would be very nice :)

Personally, I find it a bit too "slow" or... fat (I don't know how to say that in English). Maybe (it's not what I want in priority) that it's not enough dancing. But I'm waiting for your recommendations !

Thanks!
Tibo

Edit: I listened it just after posting and I discovered that there's a mastering problem on my samples (some are maybe too loud), sorry about that :)
Edit Edit: I don't know if I posted my message in the right section (I've seen some "WIP and unfinished tracks" or "First songs" threads), so if I did, sorry again
I try to produce all kind of sounds and I recently come to dubstep/brostep.

This is pretty good for your first! Sounds like Electro / Complextro, kind of.

It's a bit muddy in the low end! Make sure to EQ unnecessary frequencies on your different sounds. For instance, if you take some of the low end out of a Lead, and the high end out of a Sub Bass, then the Sub Bass won't clash with the lead.
Also, taking the low and mid end out of Hats (they mainly use the higher frequencies)

I dig it though, very groovy.. Reminds me of a track I did a while back when I was first really getting the hang of things! Keep it up for sure!

Thank you!
I'll try to play with the EQ to clean the sound... And I think I'll have to take some mastering courses too x)

Also I've begun a new project this afternoon, just to prove myself that I could stop using samples to fill the void :) . It is much more aggressive and dancing (I hope) but maybe more commercial or large-audience than the last one (=brostep?).
Here's what I did:
