Been making alot of this stuff recently and can't get the basslines quite how I want, I'm pretty close but not close enough I've found that alot of them are heavily square waves with a fair bit of resonance, also been using different filters to give them a bit of width, I found Logic's EVOC FB a great filter to mess around with.
Anyway here some examples, not all as i have described above but you'll get the idea
Yeah man have you tried PSP Audio - Vintage Warmer I don't think its meant to distort but if you push it you can get some nice subtle tape sounding distortion, and its great as a compressor.
tbf I haven't tried a triangle, got it close with square so kept trying with that but will have a go now
nah, i use reason- so i only use the effects inside of there .
The scream 4 thing in there is really good with the tape distortion though!
Another thing i do is play with the automation on the eq, so i make the sound thinner towards the end of say a 16 bar phrase, then when in comes back again at the soun, it sounds fat- keeps things interestin in the low end
Not synth basses but a classic techno technique I love is using reverb as the bassline. Basically like parallel compression using a kick with a fat reverb on it. Accentuate the lows instead of cut them, get a groove going with the dry kick.

Yeah I'll try that man, maybe the same thing with some of the envolopes within the synth on different filters would be cool aswell

never though of it doin that, cool idea! I can never get verb kicks sounding right though, always end up sounding like proper hardcore techno haha need to learn to get a more subtle effect
yeah, is the classic larry heard / chicago house style bass, very recurrent lately, especially after the crosstown rebels / hot creations / 100% silk hype
i would say: 303 or minimoog emulation square + saturation + good tube plugin + filter with analogue style "drive" option (such as u-he runciter)
Yeah it has got big again recently. I thinks they're such a nice sounds, can really give a quite straight track groove. I've got Trillian which has good emulations of the synths you just mentioned and have got quite close now
Don't know what kind of techno you're talking about, but the average techno bass line is kind
of the opposite of a deep house one.
I'm referring to the reverby bass / synth (melody) bass.

Yeah tbf Techno is the wrong word but alot of the new stuff coming out as bass music i just call it house or techno, like that Jon Convex track i posted above also Instra:mental - Pyramid & Trevino - Derelict sort of a bit Techno-ish to me
It's closer to techno than what is usually called techno these days that's for sure. A lot of these artists fall somewhere between house and techno. A good mix of the sounds/techniques.
aha yeah tbf listening through the techno thread (best thread ever), I guess thats more the real sound and is different to what im on about. I think like i said above alot of new 130 producers are bringing styles from all different areas n I can definitely hear techno in there.

To me yes, or one of the various techno subgenres but when it gets that close I wouldn't worry about the terms so much. If someone mentions Feed Me to me as techno though (and it's happened), then no. Remember techno also morphed sounds in other cities too, like the original Detroit sound versus the Berlin sound vesus the London sound etc.

sounds a lot like blawan, imo it's not traditional techno but fits in with all these 'uk bass' producers trying to copy that sort of style. tbh its stupid getting caught up on genre names though, theres so much overlap between house and techno and the stuff the 'bass' producers are making a lot of the time its hard to draw a line.
and that acidy bassline is pretty cool. pretty easy to make too. you could prob use any subtractive analog-ish sounding synth with sawtooth oscillators coupled with quite a bit of filter action and saturation. or you could just use rebirth lol.

Interesting need to up my knowledge on the whole subject tbf. Since I've got into over the last few months though it has definitely become possibly my favourite genre on par with house That tune is real nice aswell! Am I right in thinking the detroit sound is abit more like 808/909 & lots of electric sounding chords & sequences?

Yeah I hate the term UK Bass but i guess that is sort of what alot of the new stuff coming out is labeled as. Like you said though, I try not to get caught up in naming it too much, if its 120-135, 4 to the floor its house or techno
Had one kick drum as my main kick and another one with a completely wet reverb with a long predelay (about 300ms) running into scream4's tape saturation, then into a thor with a lowpass then a modulated comb and then a high pass. then i sidechained it with my dry kick.
think its still abit to muddy at the moment and thinking modulating the pitch would make it a bit varied

http://www.rebirthmuseum.com it's free now, it's still great but it's been surpassed of course since it was one of the original/old emulations. Still, can't beat the free pricetag.
Well the techno from Detroit was very soulful, not very aggressive and also has a lot in common with electro and funk. I'm talking actual electro, not the new electrohouse stuff, but artists like Afrika Bambaataa, Dopplereffekt etc. The funky stuff with TR-808 breakbeats.
