I think the point was that some people find it sad that Hotflush doesn't cater to dubstep anymore, this being the saddest moment in dubstep thread...

Dont think so. TNGHT, HudMo, LFO, Africa Hitech, Flying Lotus etc are tho.

All that melts away when the lights are down and the bass is up.

So true. Some of the older Loefah, Skream etc tunes had this warmth (only word I can think of to describe it) in the sub. Nowadays, there's a lot of tunes that just seem so cold purely of this obsession with getting the cleanest possible sound. Muddying it up a bit, for me, just adds to that dark, grimey mood.

Yeah I know, I saw they were a bit against it in an interview. They've just got some bits that hover around 140 and have sub bass so idk what else to call it

just because you don't want to make something, then you make it, doesn't mean you don't make it...

shuffling percussion w/ subbass at 140 bpm = dubstep

(what ever you want to call what mount kimbie made, it's a lot closer to the dsf "dubstep" than brostep anyway)

Sorry for the late reply, as others have mentioned it is more about the style and output, Hotflush still bang out the releases but it is now more techno than dubstep. Can't argue with the direction they wanted to head in, just feeling nostalgic i guess.

No.... ffs.

It has alot of differences. The guys said it themselves, they think the label is bollocks. you need to understand, at that time over here, when they were just starting to get big, everyone was saying that everything was post-dubstep or whatever. All the music mags and blogs. Artists got sick of it. Why do people have to put a label to everything. Probably just so they can have this weird gay sense of superiority over other people because they know the 'official genre name'.

Listen to the Crooks & Lovers album, that is not dubstep man, sorry ha

i'd imagine it serves a better function than that, in giving the music a context ... it's 140ish subby electronic music that was written after the first wave of dubstep happened. If you don't like the label, fine, but to deny the influence would likely be a lie.

As wank as it sounds, the phrase "post-dubstep" does nothing but establish a primary influence and give chronology to the music.
