sit in the studio and just mess about, experiment, dont even have a goal set just see what different sounds you can make, and eventually something will jump out at you.

Re: Writers block from hell
Find something that inspires you. Whether that be a documentary of your favorite group/band/artist, different music, or even that special someone you admire.
I personally find it best to talk to someone who gives me a little 'spark', someone who can make me blush(cheesy I know), but using that is my way of doing what I do.
Almost every track I made is about someone in one way or another.

There's nothing worse then forcing yourself to write when you're stressed, tired, and uninspired.

Re: Writers block from hell
i thought everyone had gathered this by now but the ultimate cure to writers block is to stop trying.
you've run dry, nothing moves you or inspires you, for whatever reason your brain doesn't want to turn anything that gets absorbed by your mind into any kind of creative output.
this is normal, and it's as much a part of making music as playing an instrument is.
do something that is nothing to do with creating music. see your friends/girlfriend/boyfriend, watch a film, do whatever will take your mind off it completely for as long you need. before you know it you'll be humming a new melody to yourself on the way home.
but forcing it only makes it worse, you'll end up hating the sight of your studio and everything you come out with will be uninspired.

Well, what I do is a pretty much start hitting notes on my MicroKorg until I get something rather nice to listen to, then I record it, then I build the rest of the song around that one recording. You could do this in anything.
It's when you run out of good ideas.3za wrote:Wtf is writers block
Re: Writers block from hell
the only time i ever get inspiration is when I listen to a weighty tune and its just so good that I simply have to make something. its just an impulse. Listen to more music from all over the place.
Go on the house section of the forum and listen to some stuff there, it will inspire you.

Re: Writers block from hell
LatelyI have been having writers block like crazy and its discouraging
lately Ill just write melodies or do sound synthesis, something that doesn't take alot of criticial thinking and more freestyle

Re: Writers block from hell
Its when you convince yourself you can't come up with any ideas so you stop trying. Quit trying to make production sound like some form of magic where your mind only releases creativity when it feels like it. Unless youre making some ridiculous, unorganized noise tracks, making music with western scales and structures is a completely logical process. All creativity is then, is the motivation to work on music in the first place.Sewage Canal wrote:It's when you run out of good ideas.3za wrote:Wtf is writers block
Dont take time off and wait for ideas to pop into your head, thats a lazy way of avoiding the process of actively being a song writer. And developing the ability to create music out of nothing is one of the most vital skills you can have.

Re: Writers block from hell
i thought i was the only one who didn't believe in writers block haha. i do believe people can think they have it, hence my earlier advice, but i also believe it's as easy to get over as saying "i don't have writers block, i am a genius".
