So basically I ended up not like the keys on my akai mpk 61, that and the size was way too huge I never used all the keys. If you read my earlier posts I got the nanoKontrol2 for all my transport/knobs/faders/buttons needs.
So I have $400 in guitar center credit and I'm trying to see where's the best place to spend my money. Right now I have a fast track pro that pops and glitches and crackles randomly, it's a pretty crappy interface and my friend said the first thing I should get is a better interface. So for the price, the converters on the Scarlet 2i2 can't be beat at around $130. Will it really make that much of a difference in the sound though?
I'm saving for some Mackie MR8 MKII's @ 220 each but I'll wait till they have a good sale at GC before I spend my credits there. I really just need a decent midi controller, better interface, or better headphones til I get my monitors.
I was just gonna get an Akai MPK Mini since I like the synth action, kinda interested by the novation nocturn and the Behringer UMX but I really like the portability of the Akai. It feels empty without a midi controller so I was gonna either get a 25 key with full sized keys or get a mini with synth action keys since I really like the feel of synth action.
Since it's not an apogee duet or anything, is it worth it to switch out the FTP at this stage? Been producing about 4-5 years and I'm getting pretty far into the theory of mixing etc which is why I'm concerned about good converters and monitors.
Also, the guy at GC kept trying to sell me the Yamaha HS50m's even though they were cheaper than the mackies, he said they would help me more (the ns-10 effect). But for me, I like the way mackies sound, they seem the flattest of all the monitors in that price range, KRK's are bassy and yamahas sound like metal grinding. I'm trying to reduce ear fatigue, I'm sure I'll learn the ins and outs of the mackies my ears love the sound and they aren't fatiguing. I hear they break a lot and you gotta send em in for manufacturer warranty tho.
So my 2 questions: worth getting the Focusrite, prolly won't upgrade for a while after that. It's 15% off 4th of July so it's a good time to buy gear.
As for the midi controller: I'm willing to give automap a try I guess but I liked how Korg had the MS-20 Midi Controller that was exactly like the synth with all the knobs, I've always had a synth fetish so I kinda wanted to get that, even used or w/e. But I really like the MPK Mini too and its $100 cheaper...
It's nice to have it actually have all the envelope and ASDR on the knobs instead of having to memorize. Sorry for the long post but I'll probably be upgrading all my stuff over the weekend it's long overdue.
I like making bomb beats without breaking the bank, prolly get the MPK Mini or Alesis Q25. I would kill for that MS-20 Midi controller though...
Worth selling Fast Track Pro for Focusrite Scarlet 2i2?

Re: Worth selling Fast Track Pro for Focusrite Scarlet 2i2?
So I think it's worth it to get the Saffire, just to get rid of the god damn crackles and pops, plus its about 100x better converter wise and I'll need it for the mackies anyway.
Should I get the Novation Nocturn25 or the MPK 25??? for $150 and 15% off it's kinda hard to beat what you get with it. I like the full size keys. If I get the nocturn though I won't have any reason to keep the NanoKontrol2 since I won't be using it as a mixer.
Would probably replace with with an mpk which is also $100 with $15 off so... really good deals on these items, good compact gear. Go?

its good that you're thinking about these things but at the end of the day you could be making beats instead of fretting on and on about which mini keyboard to get. as if people are gonna read your walls of text. i did the last thread, but come on. sack up and make a decision.
Re: Worth selling Fast Track Pro for Focusrite Scarlet 2i2?
I did. MPK and Mackies. Nocturn sucks my nut. Writing these posts just helps me think and shit, sorry for the wall of text.
Re: Worth selling Fast Track Pro for Focusrite Scarlet 2i2?
btw nobody forced you to read and you didnt even answer shit, so get off your high horse I'm trying to get some fucking gear, dont know why I haven't learned this isn't exactly the most knowledgable forum as far as studio monitors and anythign other than "HOW DO I MAKE LFO ON CUFOFF" posts. Guess I should choose my forums more wisely.
