New guy here, little confused

Hey guys, first I would like to say hi it's my first post secondly I have already a mac book pro and I went to the music shop near me as I was going to buy a keyboard and a copy of ableton. When I got to the shop the guy said there was a free copy of ableton with my maudio key station. It is ableton lite 7.

My question is can I make dubstep on a lite version as a beginner? Do i have enougt tools to make basic wobbles and drums as my friend says lite is only good for djing.Please understand that I probably don't need anything special at the mo as I don't think the first few songs I make will be brilliant, do I have enough with what I have for now because if I don't buy ableton I can buy some monitors.

The main thing I would point out is it's limited to 8 midi / 8 audio tracks. Because of this it will make things harder but I'm sure you could get creative with it and maybe make it work

Ok thanks, it may seem daft to all you guys but I don't even know how to use it yet so maybe I could learn how to use ableton first on this and then get the full version when I'm better at it using the program. I guess there's is no point in getting something that is capable of more than what I am capable of at the moment. Thanks for the list but I don't understand some of them features. I know what vst's are and I think I know the difference between midi and audio. Audio is recorded in from either outside the computer or from a vst and midi is the information that plays the synths(the little blocks) Please correct me if I'm wrong also midi is what my keyboard will send to ableton to play the notes on my mac...

Reaper is a shareware DAW that keeps running if you don't pay for it.

I'd say save the money on the full version for now, get the lite and see what you can get out of it. Lurk more on the forums and read (and put into practise) as much as you can. Thanks for all the help, I did think of logic but I've had a little read about it and apparently it is a lot harder to learn than ableton. I spent last night figuring out how to play and record a synth sound and ended up staying awake till 4 this morning as I managed to get a kick, snare, some hi hats and a little wobble going. I ended up listening to it on a loop for hours lol but yeah I may check this reaper out too. I'm not a complete dumb ass when it comes to music I've played guitar for a few years but am totally noob to synths and production etc

Lite's bullshit. Use it because its free, but get away asap. I had lite when I was producing minimal solo guitar tracks and it was a nightmare with its limitations. Even though I think you get a free upgrade to intro, but still, 12 tracks will get you nowhere.

Disagree! ,,, limitation breeds creativity... Calibre has been known to say in interviews he only worked with 6 tracks.

Otherwise good advice in this thread so far..
Get a good feel with the software before parting with any cash, you have alot of choices today and all have demos.
