Sorry to break it to you guys, but there's new genres of dance music coming up in the world.

The Dubstepforum was/is a good idea, I certainly learned more in the last 3-4 years than I ever thought I would about a sound that I found to be novel, interesting, and that really made the most out of current music production technology. Plus, it was as funky as hell.

But now the genre's been in existence (officially) for a good 6 years now, meaning we're about ready for the next new thing(s) to come along.

Its an honorable duty to want to remain steadfastly loyal to the dubstep banner and be a valiant protector of all things dubstep, but the fact is, music is always evolving, and new sounds are always coming out in response to old sounds, changes in technology and demand from the audience.

I'm not rushing over to moombahtonforum.com just yet because that sound doesn't captivate me with the same original intensity that dubstep did, but that's not to say there isn't something newer, better, more interesting on the horizon. You just have to be able to be open-minded enough to see it when it comes, and resist simply relegating it to the category of "not dubstep."

Back to Benga - Diary of an Afro Warrior is a must-own for any serious dubstep fan. His earlier stuff with Walsh and Coki is essential listening for all students. I don't particularly care for Magnetic Man (too poppy), but his particular remix of "Perfect Stranger" is pretty good.. He's got a signature swing & timbre to his beats, which I quite enjoy. Seeing as how he is such an integral part of the formation of the original dubstep sound, I don't think he'll ever be able to completely move away from "dubstep.." even if the definition has to change (which it has over the last couple years).

Anyways even if what they say is serious, the point is if these guys keep making MUSIC (and someone gives it a NEW name) you can still hear their sound, dubstep or not. Again, a bit redundant on a music forum but 'talking about music is like dancing about architecture'.

And that a lot of people on this forum listen to all different kinds of it, and electronic music in general? You act like everyone here only listens to 2005 shit, when there's clearly a lot of appreciation for post-dubstep, the Hessle and Swamp 81 sounds, the rollers that Youngsta's been pushin lately, Silkie and Swindle's sound, etc. Don't try to tell us we're all narrow minded about dubstep or music in general.

cyrus you just earned -10 respect points. wtf does the genre being 6 years "old" have to do with us having to move on? why would i want to when its the genre i love? its not going anywhere and there are producers that still are creating all sorts of sounds not just brostep.

ps: we should change this thread into a benga youtube link hall of fame, because i have yet to stumble upon a benga song i actually really liked as awful as that sounds. that said i have never explored his tunes, im sure there are some good ones out there

his pre-2006 or so stuff is really the only shit that does it for me. not even stuff like afro warrior. night's probably the only tune i really enjoy
