why do i always have the feeling that most people discussing this kind of topics and argueing about tunes in retroperspective just stumbled across dubstep a few months ago and didn't even whitness the history and heard the tunes out at that time?!

you thought right, for the most part. i dont think release dates have relativity to the amount one enjoys a song though..

not the release date. but the experience(s) you had with that tune. i doubt anyone who whitnessed things like dmz 3rd b'day, would call tunes like anti-war dub overrated. i wasn't there either. but i think it's pointless to argue about these classics. not because you're not allowed to have your own opinion. but because there are things you won't get if you weren't there. simple.

So basically those tunes are only relevant to a certain context and somebody who wasn't there or just got into dubstep can't do anything but consider them untouchable classics?

no, you can do whatever you like. i'm just saying it's pointless. it's like argueing with your (grand)parents what was the big deal about the beatles, queen or deep purple.

Well, it's a forum for discussing dubstep, new or old. Don't see how this is more pointless than bigging up new producers/tunes.

as far as personal preference goes, i agree with you, definitely hits my ears with a message better than changes does :Q: :w:
my favourite Mala release (not inc. white labels) 'Forgive' is just beauty too the ears.

i just think changes seems like more of an anthem vibe.. i could imagine at a night just hearing the wahhhhhh would make you turn your head etc :w:

Anti war dub

comparing it to other tunes by mala, it lacks pressure and progression troughout the song

Jesus the fan boys on this website really are something else. That has nothing got to do with quality music. Good music is good music, if a tune was great then and still is now then its a great tune. If a tune sounded great when u heard out back then and you still think its great coz u associate it with certain memories but newer fans who werent there think its shit then chances are its not all that great.

i tried to explain that a couple of posts above, but i'm gonna try it once again:
quality music is always quality music. that's true and i never denied that.
but music is also always produced in a certain context. and if you ignore this context, you most likely gonna have problems to understand why a certain tune has a certain status and is regarded as anthem or classic.
tunes like horror show or midnight might sound to you as just some random halfstep tunes, when you listen to them in 2012. but at the point they were produced, they were revolutionary and built the roots for thousands of tunes to follow. and therefore these tunes are anthems. that doesn't mean you have to like them. personally, i don't get some tunes neither, like some of kode9's stuff or shackleton. doesn't mean it's over-rated, though.
i just got the feeling that the majority of the people discussing these topics and saying things like "i don't really understand the hype about this and that. it doesn't sound any special to me." are people, who just got into the sound. and some of the reactions i got for that statement prove me right. who the cap fit, let them wear it!
there's nothing wrong with not being a veteran and i haven't been there since 2006 either. but it always makes you look like a dick, when you're obviously some of those guys exploring dubstep's history in front of your screen, scratching your chin and trying to analyze this and that while missing some pieces of the puzzle.
and all of the above applies not only for dubstep, but for every kind of music or genre. or even art as a whole.

and for the record: i'm not a fanboy. i'm just trying not to be ignorant and dismiss everything i don't fully understand as over-rated.

Don't get this untouchable tune attitude. Just because a tune is a classic doesn't mean people can't express their opinion about it or that everybody should like it.
And imo the whole "it's a system tune" thing is bullshit. A good tune is a good tune, regardless of where you play it (ok, maybe not on laptop speakers). There's plenty of commercial jump up tunes that go off at rave, doesn't mean they're any good. What's even the point of releasing stricly system tunes if people can't enjoy it unless they're at a night?
THANK YOU!

Fuckin hell music is subjective, people can have their own opinions, this shit about calling people haters for disliking certain tracks and artists is bullshit, whats the point of an internet forum if people get shitted on for having different opinions? The point of a forum is for people to HAVE different opinions and discuss them.

And people who have heard tunes on a system seem to think they are the only ones who can speak on those tunes, ive heard tunes a love on a system and yeah they sound brilliant, but when i have my stero and sub at home turned up loud they sound brilliant as well. Yeah obviously not laptop speakers, but in genera that is bullshit. "Such and such isnt a good track". "Have you heard it on a system?". "No". "They you dont know what you are talking about the only way your supposed to hear it is on a big system wtf are you doing even listeneing to dubstep". You sound like twats.

Yeah omg i know right! lets all start threads about how we all love Mala, place would be hopping then.

Im not as a big of a Mala fan as everyone else here and i usually perfer Coki's tracks to be honest. I still think Mala is a genius but i dont think his tracks are as great as everyone makes them out to be.

Not that big on Zomby either.

Hate dungeon, find it unbearably boring.
Apart from the bit about hating dungeon i completly agree with what ya said! And you're a fellow Villa fan as well :W:

Yes, it's one of the first dubstep anthems, but, in my opinion, it doesn't really bring anything special. I dislike the drums, and, oh, look at that—wobbling sub! Then again, pretty much all anthems are overrated.
I have to agree. Granted I haven't heard it out - only the subs in my car.

i know it was a really important track for dubstep as a genre and everything but i really dont like midnight request line very much. imo it's one of the weaker songs on his album
