The drums aren't nearly strong enough man. There needs to be a great big thud whenever the kick hits, and a nice slap on the snare. At the moment, there's some high end 'pop' for the kick and a resonant 'cshh' on the snare. Get an EQ up and boost some of those key frequencies.

Thank you for the feedback bro, what monitors did you give this a whirl on if you dont mind me asking, I may have access to the same ones and would love to know exactly what you heard.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

I'm listening on some old PC speakers, which earlier today I thought were the problem with most of the tunes I went through in this section of the forum today. Right now I'm listening to KM and everything sounds fine though, right punch, right smack, and a dense sub.SignalRecon wrote:5910 wrote:The drums aren't nearly strong enough man. nie track, quite an original sound and style which is good...Like the laid back feeling im getting.. mix down sounds pretty good too, but im not listening on monitors...some automated delay on the snare to get it sounding less repetitive and maybe some reverb on your mid sounds to get them wider?
Feedback 4 Feedback ?

Ahh ok cool, well thx for the feedback buddy! That confirms a "translation" problem I already suspected earlier today after I did a car test on this.(it was sounding a bit low) Thats due to the mix, but, to be fair, this sounds well in place in 5"s and 6"s (KRK's + Yorkv's).
Thanks again for the feedback!

Anyone else get a chance to pop this into studio monitors for feedback? Thx!

Thank you very much for the constructive and practical feedback! Yes as a matter of fact I thought about a slapback or delay on the snare every other hit or something like that, good call, wasn't sure if I should try it but I will now definitely. I can work the stereo field on the mid range to try and make it a bit wider, I haven't really looked into that at all on this track. I'll see what I can pull out of that. Thank you!Barbosa1405 wrote:nice track, quite an original sound and style which is good...Like the laid back feeling im getting.. mix down sounds pretty good too, but im not listening on monitors...some automated delay on the snare to get it sounding less repetitive and maybe some reverb on your mid sounds to get them wider?

I completely agree about the kick, I'm listening to it on my Rokit 5's (they give a lot of punch for 5's) and the kick just seems 'deflated'. I don't have a problem with the snare though.5910 wrote:The drums aren't nearly strong enough man. There needs to be a great big thud whenever the kick hits, and a nice slap on the snare. I bet that if you sort out those drums you'll have a banger!

Thank you very much for the feedback + speaker setup, running on KRK 5's myself, I can definitely see how kick may seem low now, you know what, I havent side chained my kick/snare at all, I'll give that a try, i think that may resolve alot of it. Pressed play on your track, due to you being cool with a black soundcloud player lol. Thanks for posting!Sewage Canal wrote:I completely agree about the kick, I'm listening to it on my Rokit 5's (they give a lot of punch for 5's) and the kick just seems 'deflated'. Re: DubSHK - 013b - [Dark, Heavy, Deep][Free 320]
Through senny hd205's it sounds like the kick needs more punch and volume to really drive home the rhythm section.
Nice tune though.

Ahhh thanks man you rock! (especially for being so kind as to list your monitors) You know what, I just brought up the kick in the mix and added a slight bit of drive. It was sitting just like 2 db under the bass so you are absolutely right it is quite a bit low. Also I just got back from the gear store and popped this beat into 6's and 8's and confirmed exactly that.monkers wrote:Through senny hd205's it sounds like the kick needs more punch and volume to really drive home the rhythm section.

I'll update the the thread with a new DL link shortly.

Sounds great to me mate!
I'm guessing you addressed most of the issues brought up by others as the track sounded spacious and punchy.
Oh I'm presently listening with Sennheisser HD 280 headphones, if you where wondering lol. Love the breakdown at @ about 1.22 really ads some dynamism. Fantastic bass throughout. The last section starts to get a bit too repetitive for me. Yeah overall awesome tune.
