Also yes "clownstep" was definitely hated by purists, I think that's how DOA got its reputation as hate machine
Nah there was anti-everything threads long before clownstep became the term of the month/year.
The term was originally used to describe swingy tunes like bodyrock, spacehopper etc - and not in a negative context - and it wasnt used that much... and then twist em out came out and the term slowly switched to that "new jump up" kind of stuff and then got picked up big time.
yep found the old dylan quote

wat
Maybe in the context of how it's become a wankfest of who can create the craziest sound, but as music... I disagree.
Mag is right though on the part about it was used to describe the swing step tunes like Bodyrock that were a trend for a couple of years, though Dylan did coin the phrase and it was in an extremely negative context. Dylan and Tech itch despise jumpup. It eventually came to mean any wobble dnb.
Kids who think teh wobblez are new... pfft.
Get to know 1996 era jumpup. Memories rolling around the city with friends at 1 am blasting Joker Records tunes in the car, some of the best ways to have wasted my teenage years haha.
Was nice meeting him chatting and him remembering all the shit I got for doing an all TI mix and posting it on DOA back when.
He actually is pretty your typical chav as well, nice guy though.
