I'm way more into the emo side of this, Boys Life, Texas is The Reason, Cap'n Jazz, SDRE, Kidcrash, American Football (if that counts) The Promise Ring, and of course Mineral, but I can dig some Circle Takes The Square sometimes too. Just started getting into this sound though, anyone have any recommendations?
In return, take this:

Evan Weiss aka. Into It Over It , Stay Ahead of the Weather, The Progress.. - Chicago Il.

another new fave band & related sounds for u if you've never checked em. Into It Over It.. i listen to almost the full discography so far on shuffle quite OFTEN. its all i listened to for months a couple years ago when the "52 Weeks" lp dropped. so addictive. heh.

get everything Into It Over It has put out k? its dope :) Into It Over It - kind of a one man acoustic & collaborative friends band so far. apparantly supposed to be touring with a full band soon tho, it'd be great to hear some of the songs as they're meant to be heard. that would be rad.

eh hudson:

CSTVT - Chicago IL. (originally Castavet .. got threatened by the metal band of the same name lol - punk vs. metal, who won that one? ha)

^^ Stay Ahead of the Weather, Into It Over It collaborative partners over the years. CSTVT haven't put anything new for a bit. but "apparantly still a band" as of a couple months ago. i like their more atmospheric shoegazy sounding stuff from the earlier joints.

STILL one of the greatest joints ever.

Rodan (Louisville, Kentucky back then) - Rusty - Quarterstick Records (Chicago 1994).

single handedly, changed the way i listened to music. no joke. lots of great posthumous sounds came out of the ashes of Rodan too if yer unfamiliar.

get this lp for yer post-hc trivia sessions & campfire sessions. heh. TURN IT UP, it still rocks da spot! John Peel thought so too r.i.p.

80's & 90's post-hardcore. essential.

to the T.
Neurosis are great. But never really viewed them as post-hc. Sure, their early material was hardcore. But they moved on to their signature doom/sludge, which imo is metal.
post-hardcore ... once again, originally was no real defined sound or genre. post-hardcore went everywhere back in the day. the common thread in all the diversity is that the initial era of 80's post-hardcore influenced everything that came after, u know? no genre, just ideas. once again, the post-hardcore thang was just a vague term as it always has been, i see the supposed theory of it as a blueprint for many things that came after, its all good. i listened to alot of the related musics back in the day. still do sometimes.
You gotta draw the line somewhere imo, cause otherwise pretty much anything hardcore-influenced or that had some connection to hardcore at some point can be post-hardcore. Neurosis for me is a metal band, even their hardcore material is more crossover.

^^BAH!! begone with your close minded ways young one :a: heh. kidding.

i'm older, & grew up listening to the late 80's & early 90's stuff right from the root, & still check out new stuff all the time.. hence my immediate references to this topic. as a fan of the musics, i've always enjoyed it all from a bigger picture perspective, & still do. at the end of the day, imo, to even use the term & make a reference to post-hc 20+ years on, as i've said before, the influences of what came out of it initially & what we're hearing NOW is what's important. specifically, there's always been inclinations in hardcore period to metal, post or not, crossover to just straight up fuckin metal. they cross lines all the time. always have - crust, grind, black metal, even industrial.. u name it right? very much a punk rock root there in MANY instances. for me, its easy to make the connections within those contexts. i've listened to ALL of it & still am listening. very much so :) :4:
Definitely. There's refferences to pretty much everything in hardcore (as a wider thing, not just the common NYHC sound or whatever). Just look at Southern Lord's recent releases. The huge doom metal label releasing black metal-influenced crust, metallic (Entombed-like) hardcore, sludgey crust etc.
But that's really not what I mean. I think we just have different perspectives. You talk about the idea of post-hc (which I get), whilist I'm talking about different scenes. Maybe it's because I wasn't around at the time, dunno. I can't see bands like Neurosis as post-hc (even if they have a connection) because they're part of the sludge/doom scene that happened in the early 90s (with Eyehategod, Dystopia, Grief, Sleep etc) which is mostly associated with metal rather than hc/post-hc.
And post-hc is remembered mostly as a specific scene (or group of scenes). Of course, this is a simplification, it's not black and white. And when I made the thread, I had a specific scene in mind.

My favourite blog. Taking the piss at hardcore (music, people...) mosty, plus all sorts of random shit like trap, pop, graffiti etc.
+1 for stuff you will hate its a hilarious blog! i don't even listen to most of the music it covers but it's really funny how it takes the piss out of musical elitism (have to hang my head in shame a bit there lol).

i used to be really into metalcore/post hardcore in my teens and then started listening to dance/electronic stuff almost exclusively after discovering house, techno and later dubstep. i'm rediscovering some of this stuff now so it's quite cool listening through all of the stuff posted in this thread cheers :D

my only contribution: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhvJvHvb2mo - love all the british alt rock/post hardcore stuff that came around in the early 00s which is sadly forgotten about now. hifh just reformed though which is good

Hot Cross were amazing live!
The show we did with them was amazing!
And hanging out afterwards was awesome, Denny's!
Really amazing guys, very genuine, Drummer ran/(runs ?) Level-Plane records,
Lots of god stuff on that label from back when,
I had the poster from the Saetia record framed,
They were the first "Scremo" band, and one of the only ones to ever do it right, IMO.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saetia

I remember other good stuff from that time too,
Malady, members of PG99 and City of Caterpillar

Refused (still enjoy thir videos from time to time)

Torche (very fun too see live) I like them becauseit's sorta shoegaze/stoner metal

Git Some, members of PMFS (Saw Planes play a house party in Arcata, LIFE CHANGING!)

also, I still have two LPs from this awesome Artsy hardcore band HUGS.
can't find any audio, they were scary.

OK, The BIG ONE maybe my favorite hardcore band (slightly embarrassed to admit)
THE BLOOD BROTHERS

Dudes, this one really still gets me... :crybaby:

and this, from their first album, SASSY AS FUCK! SASSCORE, love the breakdown in this tune!

and I also still really groove on THE LOCUST
saw them @ an early show when I was 15

This is an amazing "post" Hardcore LP, one of my all times!

and this was around the time I started getting more into electronics/synthasisers, so I listened to this 10min song lots!

so, i saw this random flyer awhile back & was kinda curious. MOSS ICON reunited for a gig in Austin,Texas last month, June 2012??!!!

it was true. they sound AMAZING. big the fuck up. lucky bastards who witnessed it.

Moss Icon (Maryland, 1986 - 1991) shaped LOTS. there would not be a huge chunk of influence in post-hardcore & punk sounds without them. everything released is gold.
* Ebullition Records, Vermin Scum, & Veriform Recs, handled the catalogue. most noted post Moss Icon bands - Born Against, Universal Order of Armageddon, The Great Unravelling, all great in their own right of course.
