Koan sound / music theory

Post by Ta-nK » Fri Jul 13, 2012 2:31 pm

What are the scales used by koan sound in their songs? I have no idea of which scales and progressions they use to make their melodies/drops sound so funky and catchy.

Here is an example of what i mean:

or the less recent mr brown:

Thanks a lot for the answers!

its all about the patterns plus the interaction with the drums listen to it and try to figure out when its useful to play a 1/16 and when they hold the note long just to go to play the scale down or up fast

Funk is rhythm, not scales.

I just wanted to know which scales they use in order to get new ideas for my future productions, i never wanted to copy/imitate their own sounds. (:

Why not just sample old funk and soul records?
