To go along with that analogy. You were a kid once upon a time too that was throwing all that garbage out your car window.outdropt wrote:Its like garbage in the street,

7 year old BROstep/Trapstep/Chillstep producer from India. Young. Talented. 7 Years Old. Super skilled for age. Signed to NOW22. Biography written in 3rd person on soundcloud OBVI. The next Skrillex. Wait I don't even like him anymore LOL. Super talented. Only 6 years old.
						Re: Dear Wub
If you check my previous posts, with few exceptions, not to much.. I really spent a lot of time reading around these forums, along with tutorial videos, music theory websites, synthesis websites.
I mean some of the questions can be answered by simply doing a little research, and when you do that research you end up finding out a lot more information not purposefully sought out, but very useful.

I liked the idea of Lifted's forums (as deadly mentioned) however I'd just adjust it so you have full access to read everything, you just arent given posting rights. The majority of these stupid threads have either been answered 100 times before, or the route to the answer could be found if the person asking the question had any knowledge of what they were actually trying to accomplish. Hopefully by doing this by the time you've got access to post you won't be asking for the 100th time 'how do i make my kicks punchy' because you've read through all the threads and techniques to do so.

people want spoonfeeding if they cant make a decent sound in 30 minutes now with a whole raft of downloaded plugins.
I, and many others, are happy to help when people seem to have made an effort but no one seems to try much any more. instant gratification seems to be expected.
it took me a year and a half to save up for my first synth FWIW.
yeah yeah, stfu granddad etc.
Re: Dear Wub
Hahahaha no shit right. Fucking youtube tutorials and HD how-tos all over the place. I would have killed to have these resources back in the 90s. Production forums are largely reminiscent of Yahoo Answers where people ask the simplest questions and wait for answers to things that could be answered in 10 minutes with a search on here or countless other websites. I enjoy geeking out talking about engineering and production, but I see the point. The Lifted forums were nice, but... how long did that last. It was so slow. I forgot my login info because there was hardly anything posted there. Some amazing threads sure, but it wasn't really a rolling community type thing like I think DSF shoots for. Many production forums have gone stale though, so DSF should stay ahead of the curve if the forum wants to remain active (this section anyway).paradigm x wrote:years ago, before the internet, you got some kit, and fucked about with it for days, months, years to figure it all out. no one to ask how to do it, or to sound like shrillex etc.

I watched youtube stuff for things that weren't a given. While most things can/should be learned on your own, there are some things that you must be told by somebody else.

even something as a simple karma system on here (one sep from the other sections) would be a good thing for knowing who is giving good advice.wormcode wrote:Hahahaha no shit right. honestly i would love to see a separate sub board not based on post count, because that's easy enough to rack up, or some moderation on new users who just registered starting new topics. there are so many people who register and just post a new topic about a question that has been covered a million tiles, or is right in the stickies. maybe if they had a cool down period of a week or so before they could start new topics, but not post in threads that already up it would encourage people to use the resources that are already here.
Re: Dear Wub
you summed it up perfectly there.outdropt wrote:Its soo broad tho, IMO
Like the range of posts go from really complex, what is this technique
Or retarded noobs asking should i compress my master bus, ect ect ect.
It would be awesome for a section made for high level production questions/discussions.
Otherwise im going to have to go on a hunt, threw all the garbage posts, and start tearing new assholes left and right.
JOIN ME BROTHERS!
dubstep has gotten pretty popular over the past couple of years. this forum here is essentially ground zero for dubstep production so of course the userbase is going to be broad.
Re: Dear Wub
There totally should be a caste system! Man thatd be good, feeling superior and shit.
But yeah im gonna be brutally honest here: most of you asking for an "advsnced forum" arent very good. I mean i know fuck all tbh but what the hell would you talk about there. Just ignore the shitposts and make more techno threads.

Re: Dear Wub
Well a karma system can be good, or bad... doa went that route and it's kind of become all about that. I notice people abusing it on people who they don't like etc. A separate section might be interesting, like an 'advanced lab' type place, but no one from the DSF team has spoken thus far, and even if they did I think they'd be against this honestly. They have been simplifying things here, and closed a few subforums recently.deadly habit wrote:even something as a simple karma system on here (one sep from the other sections) would be a good thing for knowing who is giving good advice.wormcode wrote:Hahahaha no shit right. I think these are interesting ideas, but based on questions asked over the years, dubway also doesn't seem too interested in trying forum plugins and such, and prefer to keep the forum pretty bare bones for compatibility and stability.

doa went to shit when they updated
but yeah i doubt any of these ideas will take hold since new plugins never seem to get adapted here besides the media embed ones

Hopefully the database is archived well though because from about 2002 to 2009 it was a goldmine.

Re: Dear Wub
Ha, this topic does come up about once a year.
I've always been in the 'against segregating the forum' camp as I feel that splitting advanced production topics from the noob questions would ultimately just alienate people on both sides and this would probably be a less active forum. The fact that this production forum is so active is one of the reasons I stop by here.
I'm a music and gear nerd, so its fun to sometimes talk shop.
There are always things to learn, try to help out when you feel you can help and just ignore the rest is how I usually roll.

Re: Dear Wub
i think this is a good idea, i am not by any means a "senior" here, but i do see a lot of useless posts, about things that could be found on the first page of a google search. plus, there is the DSF google, which is even better help for that.
also, we have the same name

take a look at NGU's board. there is a 'rep' system. the more thanks a user receives the higher their rep is which is indicated right under their username. really shows who's the "wasteman" , someone has a post count of say 2k and 0 rep. while another user could have 500 posts and a rep of 300. then you could tell that user is well respected/has done his part. but then flaws/cons like "boosting" can come into play or say someone could give advice only if they get rep in return, but a way to fix that is by having negative rep as well as positive rep.deadly habit wrote:even something as a simple karma system on here (one sep from the other sections) would be a good thing for knowing who is giving good advice.wormcode wrote:Hahahaha no shit right.
