Should I trade my DJM800 for a Xone92?

Post by TooMuch » Tue Jul 17, 2012 4:42 am

I could do it for around a straight swap if not earn a bit of cash on the side if anything?

I spoke to Yunx a while back and he said he'd go for a 92 due to its better sound quality? Im guessing if anyone's gonna know he is! I also like the idea of the two mid's for some reason? I guess the DJM has more effects tho like delay/echo etc? Good for mixing in and out of hip-hop but i guess I have Serato's built in effects

I have the djm800 and i love it, i heard the xone 92 (might be a different model tho) has the trims on the back so you cant see them, sounds like it could be a nuisance but two midis would be amazing.

No. Just no. It's a DJ mixer, not audio interface.

DJM 800 is standard in any club/rave/event venue anywhere in the world. And for good reason.
You're not likely to see a Xone92 anywhere but someone's bedroom.

DJM800 - broad range of effects, tonal mixing capabilities, filters etc etc
Xone92 - only filters, but 4 band EQ control (DJM has only 3 band) and a clearer (IMO) sound quality

DJMs have a very distinctive sound...as anyone who has heard the flange effect in a club will attest to

Even the cheapest A&H sounds better than the most expensive Pioneer.
Most clubs do indeed have Pioneer mixers but that is no excuse to stitch yourself up as well. I've played at plenty of clubs which have A&H mixers. Once you get used to the A&H filters you will never be tempted to use Pioneer's shitty built in multi-FX ever again.

The only reason I request DJM over A&H is that the A&H crossfader doesn't lend itself to choppy mixing style (which I generally do more of as I drink more)...other than that I agree with everything that Ten Pound Bawwwwwwwg has said 8)

Ive never had the chance to use A+H, cant buy them anywhere here. in fact the best place to get equipment + monitors is Virgin. but is the previously mentioned A+H mixer the one with trims on the back? and the headphone input sticking out the front?

I know this isn't really answering the questions, but if it were me I'd go for an A&H mixer with a Pioneer EFX series effects unit running via the send/receive channels. Best of both worlds, YouTube the James Zabiela EFX 500 videos for some examples of what you can do with them :D

Xone92 is the best-sounding DJ mixer out there save for the stunningly pain-in-the-ass all-rotary Urei. its midi capabilites are limited, but they do work.

djm 800 has the phaser, which you can overuse like every other DJ does.

Xone is far easier to see in the dark.

I thought it was the flanger which everyone abused?
FUCK flangers. Fair enough put one on a hi hat channel or a bassline or something, but master channel flanging makes my blood boil for some reason.
FUCK flangers.

The flanger on the 600 was ridiculous when it first came out...mainly as you had folk at rooms with HEAVY soundsystems forgetting to turn down the bass EQ before triggering it, leading to soundsystem rinsage left, right & centre.

you know those mornings after a gig where you get up extremely hungover and realize that you didn't even shut down your laptop-- it's just sleeping?

so you open it up and serato is still up, and you look at the songs highlighted in green in your recently-played list and you're like

holy fuck

my god

what in the world did i PLAY last nite????

?

you want the DJM for that night.

Don't know about Younsta's knowledge of audio equipment, but Pioneer is whack game.
Never get why they want it to feel like it came straight from toys 'r us.

I always make it my priority not to get the most populair brand though :D

:o Shit this has actually happened to me already... Maybe its a sign.

Im fully happy Im not going to lie but XONE's do appear in more clubs as of late so I dont agree on that remark. My mate has a XONE4D which is basically a 92 with some added Midi interface and its sound is impecable and its a lot of fun to. Not that the pioneer isnt. Hmmm
