Blaze - Tank! (Nearly as heavy as the Tank itself)

Post by Blazer » Wed Jul 18, 2012 1:41 am

So I finished this tune today, wouldn't call it filthy, more action-y haha, and yes the samples in this tune are the Left 4 Dead tank :) Would be much appreciated if you could leave some critisism, and perhaps share/follow for more if you like it  Cheers!

Opinions? Yay? Nay? I'm willing to hear it, even if it's harsh critisism. I can take it! >:D

The bass/drums seem all right but I'm not a fan of the samples. They need to be made stronger, maybe either making them louder, boosting the bass, or adding reverb. But the way you have them now make them weak-sounding compared to the other stuff in the track.

Hi hats man. Not terrible, but it drags on. As you make more songs you'll probably find yourself putting more and more effort into it.

Thanks for the replies :)

The samples seem alright to me, I genuinely don't think they need to be any louder, but i'll probably look into ways to make samples sit better in the mix so they seem clearer :)

There were hit hats in there when I first started making it, but they didn't seem right, it felt better with none in there :/ I understand what you mean though, It's not that I didn't put effort into this track (because I did, otherwise I wouldn't dare show it off haha) but I'll get better musically and be able to add more complex stuff going on :P

Cheers people! ^_^

Yeah my bad not effort, but new intricacies that add more interest.

Nice work, great theme. Some samples of the main characters saying "TANK!" would be cool, especially the female character. Here's a few production tips...

Use stereo shaping or separation on anything you want to stand out.
Automate LFOs on the filter cutoffs and resonance and try assigning the same LFOs to the amp mix of your different oscillators. This'll give the bass more movement and depth, otherwise known as 'wub wubs' and 'wah wahs'.
Multiband compression and excitement on anything you want to make more heavy, such as the aforementioned wubs.

The Tank samples are ideal for darksteppy stuff so stick with them and make them move about in the spectrum with pitch, time and anything else.

Remember, it never gets any easier, you just get better.

Dub love...
