literally all this patch is, is a sin modulated by another sine modulated by a formant 10 wave in fm8. after that i automated a eq with a large spike to make it more vowelly.
after that very very minimal effects. a little bit of high end reverb and maybe a mostly dry vocoder.

BRING ON THE IDEAS BRETHREN!!!!!
I do exactly this lol sometimes i use my dx200 but FM8 remains my go to synth for growlers. Also, @ Blue is a monster for these types of sounds just be sure be sure to use a FM algorithm and change the oversampling to x16.

Might be stating the super obvious here, but in order for rando's pics to work for you, the intrument itself should be played 2 octaves down at the very least.

@Rando
Thanks! FM8's modulation matrix is different from Sytrus's, so that makes the images a bit confusing, especially since I've never used FM8. However, I think I understand the concept now. Going to try it in a bit.
...in my opinion

nice! yeah sorry i didnt reply, but i had the sytrus patches before my comp went out. i could get them off my old laptop HDD but the fm8 one is better anyways, and i know sytrus's mod matrix is confusing, i know how to use it, but FM8s is alot more practical with the arrows pointing to everything

I like to take a reese with a lp filter envelope with slow attack for growls. Then fuck it up with a bandpass/lowpass combined, add a phaser and boozt dem fuckin 2 khz :D dont forget to distort and add your favourite effects ;)
I know this isnt very accurate, but i hope it gives you an idea, just experiment ;)

Yo guys! :Q:

Tried to make some Drumstep earlier today. I think I got a pretty "ok", not over the edge, kinda sound out of Reason, Malström and Ableton. :)
If you want details about the FX-chain and whatnot, just tell me and maybe I'll post some screens! :W:

It's there. At 250Hz. This track is not mixed at all, but I can clearly hear it. Buy some new speakers/headphones will ya? ;-)

I'm just joking, i hear a snare but it's really weak.
And there is my growl:
Soundcloud
