Feed Me's Drums

Post by TheYahtzeeClub » Sat Jul 21, 2012 6:17 am

I know pretty much everything feed me does is secret.& i don't really like to copy. But his kicks and snares are so perfect it brings tears to my eyes. Is there any ways to get close to the punch and sound of his drums? I've tried the whole "compress, limit, EQ, etc." stuff but it is still no where close. I've learned to delay layered stuff which also makes it pretty punchy. but still nothing has the impact of feed me's drums. is there a sample pack with samples that sound close to his? is there something else i can do besides the stuff i have been?

well that guy just uploaded edited vengeance samples so if I were you I'd just buy a vengeance pack or two.

Anyways feed me layers the shiite out of his drums and is pretty good at it. If I were you, I would just start layering & use different samples to bring a different character to the overall drum hit. :W:

good samples, layer them, EQ them so they fit together well & compress heavily with a few milisec attack

Sharp powerful EQ boost at around 200 hz along with transient shaping, saturation and reverb. Also layer lots of samples.

Also keep in mind that that guy is a legend from the dnb scene. He has done it for many years now. Up to 12 layers for a good snare...

Rule of thumb: If it sounds good it is good.

OP
Just going off the tune in your sig.
Use different samples, and try pitch enveloping, and then pitch shifting if necessary, your drum samples.
The actual punch in the bass drum comes from spiking at around 70hz to 110hz. Also, cut the mids on your bassdrum to make the bass more prominent, a little, and I really mean a little, distortion before the EQing works.
Snares punch usually comes around 180hz to 230hz, and the same distortion could be applied there too.

From here it's all about the mixdown. Personally, I base my mixdown around the bass drum, keeping that the loudest and everything fairly quiet, then just normalizing the audio-file post-export. This makes it smack the hardest when it comes out.

Oh and, when you layer a snare with another and so on, and then say you finish a track with it... take the snare and export it, then you can recycle it and layer it with other snares, and so on :D you can keep recycling it!

Why the fuck are you layering that many...just find one with a nice high end and layer it with a pitched down clap or 808 snare...

Dude, there's no solid law to layering. The only reason anyone would even layer that many is if they felt it made a contribution to the effect they were trying to accomplish.

If they are layering that many, then they are layerin the wrong samples

I guess you're the layering expert and Feed Me/Spor's years of 'experience' were all a waste of time :6:

I'm not saying I'm a fucking expert I'm saying that if you have to layer 6-12 snares to get a desired effect then our probably doing it wrong.. Or at the very least ass backwards

This.

I would put good money on the fact he doesn't layer 6 snares, think about it - it's honestly stupid. If you have to layer that many to get a decent sound then your base samples suck or your layering way too aggressively and cutting too much of each sample away.

I honestly don't understand what you guys are on about. IF that is what he does, how could you even begin to say he's doing it wrong if it gets him to a sound he's happy with?

It's fair enough if he likes the result, but honestly you can achieve good results with far less samples - therefore less effort. There's no right or wrong, I just think using fewer, higher quality samples will yield a better overall result than trying to glue 12 samples together.
