Re: Feed Me's Drums
Honestly whether it takes 1 or 100 samples to get the snare youre looking for, as long as you can get there its fine. I think I've used 8 or so samples on a snare before, but thats just because I like panning and layering all the claps and tops individually. That said, I don't think Jon's drums are anything particularly special, they're just extremely well mixed. If anything they're more subdued than most electro producers.

I remember hearing at the mau5hax thing that he doesn't compress his kicks
I've been using the Ableton rack from this video and it's been convenient:

There's nothing "wrong" with using that many snares; but the number of issues you'll run into with phasing and pitching would be a nightmare. It's just unnecessary is all. To each his own but the most I've ever used is 3, one for the punch, one for beefy mids, and one for a nice snap and high end. Layering 3 would take me a few hours to get something I like. I can't imagine how much time I would need to spend to layer 12 snares and get something resembling a clean punchy result.5910 wrote:I honestly don't understand what you guys are on about. IF that is what he does, how could you even begin to say he's doing it wrong if it gets him to a sound he's happy with?
Beleive it or not, browsers here may not have the most find tuned ear for sonic accuracy.

Re: Feed Me's Drums
Back when feed me was doing DnB (under the name Spor) I heard he liked to use 707 sounds as the basis for his drums.

I meant up to 12 occasionally back in the dnb age. For dubstep you'd usually only need 3 max.

Is there any ways to get close to the punch and sound of his drums? I've tried the whole "compress, limit, EQ, etc." stuff but it is still no where close. I've learned to delay layered stuff which also makes it pretty punchy. but still nothing has the impact of feed me's drums. is there a sample pack with samples that sound close to his? is there something else i can do besides the stuff i have been?
I think there's simply no substitute for the years of experience. Tips and tricks will get you close but you just gotta keep doin it. No sample pack is going to get you there overnight.... unless there is, in which case, can I have the link? lol
