Dead Prez - Hip Hop (DFRNT Dubmix) - UPDATED

Post by DFRNT » Mon Jul 16, 2007 8:16 pm

Hi all...

I present to you, what's turned out to be my first foray in to the world of Dubstep.

I've been producing other genres for a while, and although I'd never call myself experienced, or good enough to be professional, I'd like to think I wasn't quite bottom of the pile either!

Gonna spend the rest of the week checking out everyone elses stuff too - Pretty chuffed I found this place, considering I've just got well into Dubstep.

The track has now been re-done. Slowed down, beefed the bass a little, added more intro & outro for playing out & slightly edited the ping-pong reverb on the vox & other elements. It's still reverb-y but altered a little.

If anybody wants to play this out - feel free, I'd love to know if you do.

Alex / DFRNT

Really? I did a search & everything to make sure I didn't look like a pillock. Oh well - is there a link to it? Would love to check it out!

Nice One!!!

I really like DeadPrez and HipHop is one of the most disgusting basslines ever

and you did a good job with this one!!!!

one point: for me, the vocal bits got too much reverb/hall (dunno what it is called) IMO you should leave it clear/original

Thanks very much!

I initially had it as just the acapella over the top, but convinced myself that it didn't sound as good as it might with some reverb & just sparse vocals. With the vocals it's less dubstep, and more grime surely. Hence the treatment.

Might re-render the first version too.

im liking this. i think it would sound better slightly slower tho.
i like how you use bits of vocal instead of trying to run the whole thing over the top.
at times the echo/reverb effect gets a bit overbearing but all in all a good soild track

I also feel this is an awsome remix, but it does need to be slowed down a bit. It would do so many things...
1. Drag the bassline out to have more of an impact
2. Make it so i could actually play it in a set
3. Make a lot more space for your drums to really shine, instead of being a little muffled because of the effects
4. Make it so i could actually play it in a set

Haha - thanks!

I presume this would be possible, by fulfilling the other 2 points, and maybe working in more of an intro/outro?

especially the intro without the vocs is nice...likin´the short repeatin´chord sound- gives it a dubby touch...

nice one.... better than the first one.

still, after a few listening-sessions, there are a few points where it sounds like the tune is some sort of skippin :? or out of time (can i say this? u know what i mean?)

edit: such a point is around 02:25 .... dunno something sounds odd to me there.

really love the original.
haven't checked the previous version but downloaded this last night and liked it... maybe you could cut a little reverb tho.
nice one!
