Recording Streaming Audio

Post by Smiles » Sun Jul 29, 2012 8:14 pm

So I have been trying to sample off youtube with audacity and I also tried a couple other audio recorders but It doesn't record anything. I have it set to stereo mix, and i tried all the other options to. I have a presonus audiobox usb interface and that goes to my monitors. On the windows sound control panel I have my speakers presonus audiobox for playback, stereo mix idt high definition audio codec for recording (there is the option for line in presonus audiobox). What am I doing wrong?

What OS? Microsoft has been getting pressured to remove that feature completely, but they just hid it well in Vista/7. In Control Panel Sound dialogue right click the Recording box and make sure hidden devices are enabled and all that. Then make sure they are not muted and the volume is set to max. Other than that, not sure... some devices just don't allow recording like that. NI AK1 doesn't support that feature for example without a loopback type workaround... dunno about the Presonus.

Windows 7 Home OS. Ya nothing is hidden and everything seems to be turned on in the properties. switching from the stereo mix to the line in presonus doesn't seem to do anything.

Not sure if this helps http://forums.presonus.com/posts/list/21676.page

Otherwise you can try something like this: http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.htm

Alternatively download the video and extract audio. Companies are making it harder or not possible to record like this due to pressure from RIAA/MPAA.

Yeah it is shit quality. Even the HD videos are not better audio quality, and still around 128kbps MP3 quality, except they use AAC as I recall. I dunno about Youtube rippers, but anything that converts them will degrade quality even more. Either gonna have to buy an original source, or extract the audio without converting. I drag MP4 files into Sound Forge to get audio, it works with most video, or VirtualDub. Otherwise check out SUPER: http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
