This thread got me in the mood to start a new play through, only got vanilla on xbox but if it holds my attention again i'll probably buy the add-ons. Last playthrough I broke into the gun runners at a really low level as I was roleplaying a really lucky, really stupid character and couldn't get out

Elijah's Watch at the back next to the Protectron factory has a beasty gun, as does the Little Yahngtze interment camp tower. Failing that, complete all the missions in OWB and you'll get a stack of decent weapons/upgrades anyway.

How much will this slow my game down?
a fair bit, but you can turn other settings down to balance it out.
also, you should probably be using the 4gb script extender, which makes the game large-address-aware. it boosts framerate quite a bit if you're using graphics mods.
edit: i forgot to say that mod comes in 3 sizes of textures according to how powerful your pc is
good to see people playing on pc, you guys should head over to http://www.newvegasnexus.com and see if there are any mods that tickle your fancy.
if you're looking for more playability in particular the project nevada and world of pain mods combined adds hours more playtime

also Beyond Boulder dome is a mod im keeping my eye on, it looks amazing

Safe, i did what you said with the medium pack, EVE, 4gb thingy and the small text mod and everything works (and looks) beautiful - in fact, it worked just as good without the 4gb script so i could probably get the large pack if i wanted to :D

So this is the first time i'm playing this game(had it on my HD because i was testing games when i first got my new PC, but i was just done playing FO3 about a year before, then i played Skyrim so wasn't in the mood for a similar game - cool story etc. ) and i'm being really indecisive about my character - i must have restarted the game about 4 times already.

I always like playing stealth in games whenever i can, but i realised that it's going to be difficult playing a melee-based stealth character in this game, what with all the unpredictable monsters etc. so i was thinking of some sneaky thief gunslinger sniper type biznizz but dont know what my initial build should be.

I heard sniper rifles are rare in the game but learned you can mod weapons with scopes etc. (can you get silencers?) so i'm thinking i would fight by getting as many criticals as possible from as far as i can, then finishing everyone else off. So, i'm considering finalising this build:

S - 5
P - 6
E - 5
C - 7
I - 4
A - 7
L - 6

and for the skills:

Sneak
Guns
Lockpicking

What do you guys think?

Lower your Charisma to 4 or 5 and raise you Intelligence, to get more points to distribute at each level.

Hmm i was always a big hoarder and seller, and the locked speech things always use to piss me off... probably a bad call to raise it that high. Going to go for:

S - 5
P - 6
E - 5
C - 5
I - 6
A - 7
L - 6

pretty middle of the road

If you can, cannibalise the corpses of The King, Caesar, Mr House and President Kimball for a next level perk 8)

Honestly, you're better of with a Luck of 8 to start with. You can always use Intense Training as a level perk to get yourself an extra SPECIAL point later on.

Best decision I made starting playing this again. Bought all the DLC cos why not. Currently up to the RepConn ghoul quest, always one of my favourites. What levels would you recommend doing the DLC packs at?

Lv20 at a bare minimum. Dead Money kicked my ass repeatedly at Lv35 as you get stripped of all your kit right at the start and the gas cloud is a fucking bastard.

I remember starting Dead Money at Lv. 5 and getting my ass molested by anything aggressive to me. Just used Dog to kill everybody while I hid around the corner. Took me about a week to finish.

This game is fucking sick!

Been rinsing it the past two days (11 hours is rinsing it to me) and with the texture packs and the like it's actually one of the best looking games i have played, can't believe i finally have a PC that can play games like this! Been fantasizing about having a PC that can play post-2004 games since 2005

I'm at lvl 7 i think and i've just finished the ghoul quest where they leave in rockets, got the robot (more storage space aiieee!) and downloaded gun runner's arsenal and dead money.

Been playing with the Special:

S - 6
P - 7
E - 5
C - 1
I - 7
A - 8
L - 7

Been using the Varmint rifle with the Night Scope and Silencer as much as possible (headshots from 300m + are pretty easy with it) or the 10mm Sub/ Scoped 9mm/ Laser-sighted Weathered 10mm (pretty gay that i can't actually see the red dot and you don't have a scope for it) depending on the close range situation. Focused on guns, repair and sneak -t- Been playing as a good guy although i haven't really come across any massive Karma altering decisions yet. The only person i unnecessarily killed was the lottery winner in Primm, hehehe.

So yeah, having some fun.

Didnt find it too hardcore although crippled limbs can be shit at first, going to replay it as unarmed, energy and barter

Encountered some bullshit glitch just now - never actually encountered a Great Khan before but when it came to Boulder City Showdown, they were hostile to me, despite what i wore, if i killed the NCR, if i did anything. So eventually i just had to kill them and that wasn't very satisfying :(

There is a one-of-a-kind variant of that...comes with all the mods already, and has a better damage/critical chance. But you have to find it ;)

He's a useless tnuc anyway. I left him be the first time round and he just stands around on the edge of the dry lake doing nothing.

Might be something to do with dialogue choices made earlier, can't remember...there are a couple of glitches like that where even if you've managed to keep someone non-hostile toward you, based on what you've said to them in earlier conversations they may turn on you anyway.

Dean Domino is like that in Dead Money *SPOILER* as once you get to one the end of his story strand if you were mean/insulting to him at all earlier he doesn't give you the 'nice' option as a way of ending things /*SPOILER*

EDIT - Also, not sure whether Great Khan reputation matters a whole lot. When I finally went to the Great Khan camp (much later on in the game) I didn't have good rep and they weren't hostile towards me. Plus there are a couple of piss-easy Great Khan quests you can do to get your rep up if need be.

^ cool cool, i managed to pick up a hunting rifle so i'm just going to head to the trading post to see if i can get a scope for it (i think i have to be level 11 according to the FO Wiki), shame you can't get a silencer/suppressor for it because it's way too loud! I guess i could use them both in combination depending on the situation (trekking wasteland, hunting rifle = good - indoors type areas, varmint = good) but it's all i can do until i find a sniper rifle

By the way, this unique Varmint you speak of - is it purchasable of is it loot? I thought i saw it in the dino bites shop for 12000 (!?) caps but that was a unique Hunting Rifle (Paciencia)

The hunting rifle w/ scope, custom action & increased mag is my standard weapon a lot of the time. Still carrying a really stripped back weapons pack - hunting rifle, Anti Mat rifle, Sturdy Caravan Shotgun, Broad Machete, 10mm sub machine gun (which hardly ever gets used)

With the Combat Armour and dumping everything else I pick up on the regular, keeps weight down to something like 65...so plenty of space for looting. Have stopped picking up armour, the weight costs vs. how much you can sell it for isn't worth the hassle. Keep them on me until I've got fully repaired versions of whatever, then offload to ED-E/Boone to carry until I have enough to do a round-robin of the sellers and make some cash.

Nope, it's loot you gotta find. It's hidden in a cave.

Compared to the varmint rifle, its lighter, boasts a higher damage-per-second, a much higher critical multiplier, and has all of the possible varmint rifle modifications: extended magazine, silencer, and night scope with superior magnification (3.5x compared to the 2.86x on a standard varmint rifle scope).

Well worth looking for :)

Just completed old world blues, have to go back to collect the biological samples and run through the X-8 test again and it's 100%. Unsure of what to do now, but me and my trail carbine can now kill death claws, with the medicine stick as backup in case things go awry
