add heat sinks to monitors?

so since i don't have a/c my samson r6as tend to get pretty hot during the summer. i know it's probably normal for them to get hot but from what i've read, if they're overly hot for extended periods it can shorten their life span. after being on for only a couple hours, maybe less, i can hold my hand on the back for <10 seconds before i have to pull it away.

sometimes i shut them off to let them cool down for an hour or two and then turn them back on but i know that all of that on/off/on/off puts wear on the internal components as well so i try not to do that

i was thinking about somehow attaching some heat sinks to the rear of both monitors. do you guys think it would be a good idea? even if it won't do that much i think it would be better than nothing. or would it be detrimental because of uneven heating or something?

also any ideas on a method for attaching them? i was thinking about just unscrewing some screws slightly, tying string and running it between the heat sink's fins and tying it to another screw haha. i don't want to do anything permanent

I'd just put a box fan behind them. I'd be worried about the heatsink vibrating and causing noise... that sounds incredibly hot though. Like abnormal!

hmm well that's not really an option atm haha. i hadn't thought of vibration but i don't think it would be a problem, i was gonna use that thermal grease stuff between the heat sinks and metal so i think that would kind of dampen any vibration if there was any. i'm pretty sure i've seen some monitors with heat sinks already on them but i don't remember what ones

Haha but honestly I wouldn't go about messing with the inside of my monitors unless they were broken and out of warranty. Fan might be you best bet. Power was out for a few weeks in dc when it was straight 100s all day. I ran my setup off a generator without any form of ventilation and it made it through fine. And those speakers were BOILING.

i don't want to mess with the insides haha i was just going to attach them to the back metal area of the monitors. and yea i mean, they'll work fine and everything it just shortens their life span and puts wear on the internals. i just want them to last as long as possible while still sounding good. these particular monitors were discontinued and i like them

so i did it, not that anyone cares haha. used heat sinks from old xbox mobos. i looked up methods for attaching heat sinks and one of them was something called a z clip which is basically just a piece of metal that runs through it and clips to the motherboard. so after reading about that i decided to use some copper wire to hold it down. applied some arctic silver 5 on the back of the heat sink before securing it as well

not sure how cool it's going to keep them yet but i think it'll be adequate, at least at keeping them from heating up so fast.

after i already put the first one on i realized that the part that produced the most heat was actually on the ride side where those other screws are but i think this will be fine haha. i also found some way better heat sinks i have lying around from some old shitty car audio amps. so maybe in the future i'll put those on. they were a bit heavier though now that i think about it and idk if the copper would be able to hold them.


edit: had them on since about an hour and a half before i made this post and it's almost 3 now, definitely made a difference, more than i expected actually.

My mate used to play his (genelec?) ridiculously loud, literally, physically burned them out eventually. also seen a massive bassbin catch fire once.
