Software help

Post by legend4ry » Sun Jul 15, 2007 11:29 pm

Ok so ive been messing about trying to produce my own tunes, and I thought for my own pleasure I will remix a tune.

I want to get some samples such as, the melody and a synth in the intro, what would be the best software for this?(taking out bits of a tune)

I would prefer it to be freeware but if the only good software you have to pay for thats fine!

Thanks

Audacity for freeware.
Sound Forge or Wavelab for the rest.

I used to have audacity but it used to instantly restart my PC soon as I opened it, was a piece of crap on my machine.

I'll check out the others cheers.

http://www.reaper.fm/

this one is shareware but its full functionality will not decrease after the 30 days test period. just found this the other day and it reminds me very of cubase. also features vst und dx support and so much more.

heard some rumors that some cubase peeps moved to this one as it should be a lot easier to handle but i haven't tried it yet on my own.

If you are on a mac, look for sound studio 3. It's the closest thing to soundforge on the mac platform. There is also bias peak, and dsp quattro as well. Take your pick 8)

I tried Reaper and thought it was OK. It is just another horizontal time line sequencer though, and the front end is so horribly bloated it is not funny.

Without wanting to sound like a stuck record, you can get a 98% functional version of Renoise from www.renoise.com which has a sample editor built in. The sample editor is fine for chopping stuff up and if you have a relatively hench rig, you can load full mp3 songs in there and slice whatever you want out of them to get you started on the sample trail.

Audicity is alright as well, but again, the front end sucks. Sound Forge is the only Audio Editor worth bothering with, really.
