Great thread idea.

What equipment do you use?

2 Stanton T62 turntables and a Stanton M203 Mixer

Any planned equipment upgrades/changes?

Nah

What songs are you rinsing lately?

The Bug - Skeng
Skream - Midnight Request Line
The Bug - Poison Dart (ft. Warrior Queen)
MUV 002 (both tracks)
MUV 001 (both tracks)
Skream - Sub Island

Have you DJed any large events?

No just playing for my friends I would like to though.

What other DJ's have you worked alongside, and who was your favorite to work with?

One of my friends he is more into the bro stuff so we mostly just mess around in fl studio and not really make anything.

What is your most memorable experience?

Playing my first vinyl record (MUV 001)

Do you produce in addition to DJ, or does producing take a front seat to playing out?

I am a terrible producer but as one person said its good to know a little about the process of making tunes. DJing is front seat for me I love showing the sound to people.

If you do produce, does the dance respond favorably to your tracks?

My friends think a couple of my tracks are pretty good. Hah.

Do you mix in key?

No. But I do consider which songs work well together and if the vibe remains constant between them.

Do you DJ any other genres besides dubstep?

No, but some times I open virtual dj home on my computer and just chuck tunes in randomly from my itunes library and just mess with them.

It's never a bad idea to have your own carts spare.

This.

Been to so many nights where the decks have no needles, because the sound engineers are sick of people taking off with them. It's getting to the point now though that even if I take my own needles, odds are the turntables are going to be completely fucked, so there's just no point in risking my own equipment. One less thing to worry about on the night, gives a bit more room for relaxation and actually enjoying myself.
Shame, but a better time can be had as a result.

i was more interested in wether you always use your own stuff in order to avoid the risk of any damage of your records. i noticed that joe nice used his own systems when playing in the get darker studio (he even licks the plugs lol).

I generally always have carts/needles plus spare needles on me. As well as slip matts.

I had a monthly gig for about 18 months a few years back where I used to take my own decks and mixer. It wasn't a problem though as it was mainly me doing 5/6 hour sets with the occasional guest.

I don't see why a DJ wouldn't have carts and matts as a standard on them. I want to play my records with as much of my equipment as possible. Slip matts are often overlooked and I've come across some shockingly fckued ones in the past.

What equipment do you use?
2 x Technincs 1210's, 2 x Pioneer CDJ 800's, 1 Pioneer DJM 500, 1 Dubmekanix dub siren, 1 Akai Headrush delay/echo pedal.

Any planned equipment upgrades/changes?
I want a new mixer, the effects and XLR outputs on mine are fucked and I never cared for the cueing set up on this one, DJM 600 would be lovely!

What songs are you rinsing lately?
LOTS of deep medi

Have you DJed any large events?
Nothing major, a few local nights that were quite busy.

What other DJ's have you worked alongside, and who was your favorite to work with?
I usually go b2b with my best mate, we play a similair sound and just have fun with it!

What is your most memorable experience?
Playing at a local night with a weighty system, plenty of wheels, the crowd were going nuts that night!

Do you produce in addition to DJ, or does producing take a front seat to playing out?
nope

Do you mix in key?
I've never really tried, I generally just keep things on a "vibe"

Do you DJ any other genres besides dubstep?
I play a lot of reggae/dub (hence the dub siren) as well as mixing a bit of house/techno.

question for the djs out there...

do u prefer searching for tunes or having a mix?

you cant choose both...and why?

if i had to choose it would be making a mix, i havent figured out why yet, i just feel really at home when putting together stuff and after finally finishing a mix the satisfaction of completion is impossible to measure. Whilst searching for tunes i do enjoy, but it takes A LOT of time and energy to find precisely what you want, if you know your sound well, you end up becoming an electronic simon cowell- dismissing hundreds of efforts jsut to find that one gem- so for that reason i prefer mixing innit.

What equipment do you use?

Numark mixtrack pro and shitty laptop

Any planned equipment upgrades/changes?

Technics!

What songs are you rinsing lately?

Lots of sleeper & Distance tunes

Have you DJed any large events?

Well some houseparties with about 120 ppl.

What other DJ's have you worked alongside, and who was your favorite to work with?

Nobody famous but i got a couple of friends into it

What is your most memorable experience?

Playing at a night me and some friends put on. We had booked this local "superstar" dj who was supposed to play dubstep but he played dnb all night and was
rude and bitchy. When he played: Not a single soul on the dancefloor. When i got on (just after him) i opened up with Night by Benga & Coki and the dance exploded!

Do you produce in addition to DJ, or does producing take a front seat to playing out?

Yeah, producing def gets the front seat for me.Would like to dj more though.

If you do produce, does the dance respond favorably to your tracks?

Yeah sometimes.

Do you mix in key?

Nope but that's only because im really bad at it.

Do you DJ any other genres besides dubstep?

Yeah, minimal tech/deep house

Definitely prefer having a mix. Nothing quite like getting your own little mad blends going with tunes that you wouldn't expect, potentially limitless combinations and so many ways in which you can blend. Nothing quite like finding that unexpected mix that's a hundred times better than you thought it ever would be, that can make 2 mediocre tracks sound sick together.
