that myspace page is relatively unknown. Only about 58,000 views. My bands page has more than that. I'm surprised the hardcore fans haven't blown it up too.

You make it seem like sampling is a bad thing.

lol shittest post of the yearhookey wrote:The sound that makes Skrillex interesting (who cares about sampling old records, this has been doen to death) is the monster growl on Scary Monsters. This sound is very synthetic sounding. Certainly less resampling involving that some like to think. If the source of the sound is not good the sound will never be good. So the patch on FM8 had to be good as it without FX before the extra FX.
SORRY 2ND SHITTEST

who cares about sampling old records. it's been done to death.
On the contrary, it's all about synthing a growl.

Re: Skrillex is a sampler
Holy **** i just read that whole thing. What I got from it is that over the period of about 2007(?) to now, he's released a f*ckload of songs including remixes, unreleased, edits and released and he's, what, like 23? and he has a collection of over 100 tracks. I've been producing like a year and I've only got a few in the bag. I had a listen to his earlier stuff before skrillex, it's interesting to see how his style changed over time and became more refined. You can see in his early stuff the techniques like the vocal edits were way over used (or at least extremely prominent in the song) then in his more recent stuff it's still in there but only used throughout certain sections. It's also interesting to look at the completely different styles he's produced in the past to what he's doing now.
Anyway, just pointing out the obvious.

I agree its really interesting to listen through too. Makes it obvious why he's where he's at now, the man works harder than anyone in the scene. All you gotta do is pour yourself into 100 tracks in three years and if you're genuinely putting your best effort forward success is inevitable. He finished what, 50-60 songs before getting recognition? Something I think about when I start to feel like I'm burning out.
Re: Skrillex is a sampler
anyone doing this full time is going to have output like that.
Most of us have full time jobs
He hasn't
Anyway I've done more than 100 tracks since 2010 and I have no recognition
but to be fair that's cuz they're all different, random genres and styles of music, built for tv and film music libraries
because that's who publishes my "professional" shit (for lack of a better word; just everything but the stuff i do for pleasure)

Re: Skrillex is a sampler
I think it's definitely an over generalization to say most of us have full time jobs. I'd actually say the majority of the forum are unemployed or working part time in college or something. But honestly, even if someone's working full time, that still gives them 16 hours free the rest of the day to do whatever barring having a family and all that stuff.
But yeah, maybe I should've said 100 tracks focused into one area musically haha

Would love to know how you pull that off mate, hahahaAttila wrote:But honestly, even if someone's working full time, that still gives them 16 hours free the rest of the day to do whatever barring having a family and all that stuff.

I guess the reason for his productivity is because he sat down, made a bunch of patches and then just made arrangements. Most people on here are so obsessed with finding the right growls for the track, I would think he found the right track for the growl instead, coming from a musical background like his that wouldn't be much of a problem. Re-inventing your whole approach to synthesis for each track though, that's time consuming.

Freshest track atm.

Haha
And like someone already mentioned, Skrillex was like 8 years old when Fat of the Land came out
It's like these people think he is the messiah or something.
Deep inside they must know the music isn't that good. It has to be something like releasing tension through
that absolute tear out mess. Tension or agression whatever.
