Grunge and Emo???

Grunge (and nirvana in particular) actually did something musically and socially, even if it did end up as something to be commodified by high street retailers and MTV.

Emo (in its current incarnation, perhaps not its original context) is nothing more than a brand label for children. Nothing musically interesting is happening in the genre. It is a simple and mystifying rehash of rock norms that is used to sell hair straighteners and jeans.

So what? she is obviuously in pain for reasons other than the genre of music she listens to.

She's a teenager. They all think the world is against them & they've had heavy shit happen in their lives. Hopefully one day she'll get over it, grow up & listen to some half decent music.

Wow, I got five seconds into that before closing the vid.

It took me four times as long to close that Girls Gone Wild video I got -- and that featured Doug f'n Stanhope!

My point?

Doug Stanhope > Emo
Page 246, Seagalogy --- that's my name.

In this diocese God don't run the bingo.

lollerskates.

i love how its so cool to be "broken". just like goths when i was in school. Sure, shes a kid and shes emotional, but shes sure setting herself up for a shitty, negative life. good luck to that, little girl.

man its probably the opposite. i dont think this is something really to joke about. .I am going to open up myself here and make it clear right now that i am not happy with this kind of thinking

i was beaten severely as a child and teenager by my step father on a regular basis. stabbed, punched ,kicked, etc...

I felt just as this girl did for years. I feel sorry for her more than anything. in a way she is crying for help but she is going about it the wrong way.

Hopefully she will get the help she needs and work out her problems as I have.

Well you know people change. I was very depressed as a teenager. I was
not an "emo" but an athelete that was very aggresive.
People in my life now would never guess how depressed and mean i was. Not only that many people genuinely have mental illnesses, perhaps she really does feel like she was born this way.

However the feelings i had were similar I just manifested them differently.

dub u, you are a cool ass dude though. 8)

i'm sure this chick will grow up and be pretty cool once she calms down a bit and learns how to express herself a bit better.

she's a kid, folks. get over it.

like we were all well-adjusted when we were fucking 13-18.

and frankly, she's pissed off like kids are, but she is also telling kids to wise up and empower themselves. i find that fairly positive.

8) . thanks colm. she will i am sure. it takes guts to be honest like that. she just needs to refine her logic, technique and delivery. i mean fox news pisses me off just as much tbh. (that's why i don't watch it)

If she's 13 then she probably just gets away with behaving like that as I guess most people at 13 are pretty messed up... I kinda think thats the worst age group in honesty as to me its no doubt the most insecure and its the biggest kind of transition phase I guess... So lets not be too harsh on her... But regardless I think full grown men acting 'emo' are a bit silly

what is emo?

would people call Ian Curtis emo if he were alive today?

What if a person has a mental illness that leads to extreme emotional problems? Is that something to be looked down upon or treated?
