What made you want to produce/make music?
Don't know if there's a thread on this, I haven't found one. What got you into music production? When did you start? What are your future goals and plans?
When I was about 13-14, I was into some really weird genres and was a fan of some MySpace band called Dot Dot Curve. I always watched YouTube videos of the member Jayreck scratching on turntables and doing weird shit then he started uploading videos of him making the beats for their songs. He used FL Studio & something (the old name of adobe audition or whatever). Googled FL Studio. No sir. Had no idea what torrents was then. Eventually found out. Used it for about 6 months. Sucked balls. Quit. About a year later I got it for Christmas. Started getting into it, still sucked but didn't give a fuck. Uploaded a few remixes of Tupac, Lil Wayne, DMX, etc. on MySpace. Was mainly into hip hop then. People asked for beats. Didn't know what to do. Deleted MySpace. Started getting into other genres. Arond a year and half ago, started Full Sail. Still attending online. Met some cool people. Starting advertising my music to sell to artists. Learned people would rather rip your beats off soundcloud than paying you. Stopped uploading music on the Internet. Got a shit paying job at a studio but with it and selling beats for $100-1,000 every week or so I'm happy. Once I finish Full Sail, I'm planning to move to Houston and get more involved with A&R and local labels. Dream is to someday produce an album for an artist like Kid Cudi, Wiz Khalifa, B.O.B, Gym Class Heroes, etc.

The gods called me to make emo, but the annoying american teenagers brought me to dub.

I realized that I suck at communicating in other ways.

It keeps the voices quiet.

i love music - and chicks - oh, and poetry (writing and reading). musician basically covers all those bases.
Re: What made you want to produce/make music?

I actually played the guitar, mostly metal/hardcore, but when I realized I put in all the effort myself I figured I might as well find an area where I'm not dependant on others to make music, so producing fits me nicely. No ADD drummer who's banging away each time you try to explain a rhythm to the bassist for the billionth time.

Honestly? I wanted to make a track like Strobe by deadmau5 (inb4 lulz/mau5 bashing). My first track ended up being one massive sub loop with an arp over the top and a 4x4 drum sample, it was fucking terrible.Skrew wrote:Don't know if there's a thread on this, I haven't found one. Then I tried to produce dnb & dubstep, as I started learning the ins & outs of bass synthesis the whole "OMG DUBSTEP IS FOKING AWSM BRO" scene hit and I realised people were already making music way ahead of what I wanted to achieve.
So I turned to producing dark, ambient, glitchy low tempo shit because brostep started to bore the tits off me.
And now I've returned to producing housey shit because frankly it's fun.
inb4 coolstorybro.

tl;dr i liked electronic music, wanted to make it and get all the bitches

Re: What made you want to produce/make music?
For all of you with the "to get bitches" reason. How many times have you gotten laid because of your music?

Genuinely I think the line "oh lol yeah i produce music on the side" has only actually ever impressed one girl. Luckily she never asked to hear anything... she would most likely have been dissapointed.
Any other time I've mentioned it on nights out in groups mainly with people I don't know I always seem to have "bros" popping up like "aw fuck yeah I dj too man, played some sweet sets at X, Y and Z, what clubs have you played broseph?" fml. Which is why I now never discuss my productions with anyone besides family and like 5 friends oh and the internet
But in general, yes, the "for the bitches" response is a piss take.

Was a guitar player my whole life and listened to mostly metal. Tried M once and then only listened to EDM. I'd listen to house music and say how easy it would be to make. Started fukking around on FL, didnt really take it seriously. then once I made the switch to abletons I made a dubstep attempt. Havnt stopped
first song I ever completed: Soundcloud
Re: What made you want to produce/make music?
Only girl who heard my tunes when I tried dubstep was some fat chick from Vegas. Pretended she was a hot Vegas stripper when we sexted.

Always had the "I bet I can do that attitude" with regards to most things things. Bought a program called traction 3 and all it was was a sequencer, started making shitty mash ups of things that had similar bpm's. Then bought reason about 2-3 yeahs ago....and got all the bitches

Re: What made you want to produce/make music?
4 years ago, I was listening to a lot of rap... Thinking the world revolved around rap, I wanted to be an MC. I made my own beatz n shize and it escaladed from there. I no longer rap, really...haven't done it in nearly a year.
