When you've seen loads of films

Yeah I get you, but I like to view it from different 'perspectives' if you will. Like last time I watched Aliens a few days ago I pretty much ignored the dialogue and just paid attention to the music and sound effects. I don't necessarily sit there and watch, sometimes it's a background noise type thing.

Freaks and Geeks is a great series.


Just watched the first Pusher film from Nicolas Winding Refn (of Bronson and Drive fame) and it was fucking illa. Definately worth a watch if you're into crime/gangster movies, its subtitled but hey if you cant handle that you dont deserve film.

If you're into your weird shit then Bunuel is pretty good, his famous one is Un Chien Andalou (which I havent seen but has that eye cutting scene) but Phantom Of Liberty and The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoise are both good watching

As for documentaries then I can never reccomend Adam Curtis' stuff enough (century of the self, power of nightmares, the mayfair set) though i reckon youre probably clued into them. Jon Ronson has some good bits and pieces which are more or less directly related to his books.

"Crumb" is a really good documentary too, looking into comic artist that comes from a weird bunch, and its only via his fame that he hasnt really fallen into a strange strange pit like the rest of his family (who are probably the most interesting characters).

Korean film is incredible. So if you haven't exhausted that - go for it.

Particularly the chaser (!) and yellow sea, memories of murder and ofcourse old boy.

Played Old Boy on the big screen we used to have in the living room like 1.5 years ago. I thought it was pretty good although a little disturbing now and then, but most of my mates went nuts over some of the elements in it and hated it, and ended up giving me shit about that for quite a long time. How close minded really, its just a movie, and besides that, some of them love Saw but Old Boy is suddenly too much? (im trying not to spoil anything obviously hence the vagueness )

And Memories of Murder is just good in general without anything controversial going on, thanks for reminding me of that one.

If your out of films though, try getting into some indie stuff or older movies. To be honest i have a hard time dealing with black & white unless the material is fucking amazing (Dr. Strangelove for example) but that still leaves almost anything past 1965 or so..

The pusher trilogy is more like drive, whereas the rest oh his work is quite arthouse. All good though.
