I do actually appreciate the sentiment, I just don't believe you have provided a convincing argument

if anything, the amount of money that colleges like Harvard & the like put into rowing you would kind of expect them to be just as competitive as GB.....

Can you be more specific please,

1/ Which US basketball player won five golds in five consecutive olympics?

2/ How is a sport that most of the US population play comparable to a sport that a minority of people partake in in England?

thanks
if its not a popular sport wouldn't the talent pool actually be a lot less competitive, and therefore, a lot easier to dominate for longer periods of time? rowing is also more about strength and muscle memory rather than athleticism, which makes it "easier" on your body.

btw not saying its easy to be a rower; you're just not getting the same wear and tear on your body as a whole, compared to a basketball player who runs, jumps, shoots, fights for position, etc.

overall national dominance is an interesting argument though, should Phelps' olympic achievements be wiped out, Carl Lewis'? Should only gold medal winners from countries with no national programme/setup be considered for greatest olympian?

I'll have to look into history of rowing golds at the olympics to see if this applies to rowing

lacross is getting big in highschools here now...

also, NBA players have a FUCKLOAD spent on them making sure that their bodies are good to go week in week out... but that doesnt mean its a harder sport, it just means its developed further than what rowing has in terms of skill, fitness etc because of the funds its had avalliable.

i never said it was a harder sport, just harder on your body by nature of the sport

Ill give you all a cookie if you can find the common factor between the #1 and #2 nations in rowing this Olympics... money and prep schools had little to do with this neccesitating geographical fact

Just saying geography and social habit play a big part in what your country does well.

Like saying England should be good at skiing cause they're rich

2 different sports. Field lacrosse is big in the US which shits on the international competition whereas box lacrosse is big in Canada which dominates in that respect.
