I'm an Arsenal fan, we spend our entire lives hoping for spending on transfers!scspkr99 wrote:It's shit losing your best players to a rival but it's a good chunk of money for a 29 year old player with a year left. It's a testament to both how good he is and how fucked the market is.
Your hope has to be that it all goes to transfers

Re: The SNH Football thread
There's no denying how well Wenger has done in the transfer market over his time but there's got to be a concern that a club that generates so much money breaks even or makes money on transfers.
Re: The SNH Football thread
I saw a chart the other day of the overall money gained/lost through transfers for each club since the premiership began. It was shocking some of the clubs that have spent more than us, pretty sure Wigan was one of them...

Re: The SNH Football thread
Yeah they really need to take a few transfer market tips from LFC

Well, I approve of them breaking even or even keeping a little slush fund in reserve - I like the fact Arsenal keep themselves afloat properly, but the odd splurge would be more than welcome! We have a great habit of breaking in young stars or seeing off old ones... we need at least a couple in the prime of their career.scspkr99 wrote:There's no denying how well Wenger has done in the transfer market over his time but there's got to be a concern that a club that generates so much money breaks even or makes money on transfers.

Re: The SNH Football thread
It's good to see football clubs ran well and do ok. You'll have the stadium costs covered quickly and it may be then that you see a net spend on transfers while still turning a profit but it's going to be tough when Chelsea, and the Manchester teams are strengthening and your not. You're still favourites for 4th I think because Modric is Madrid bound. Song would be a massive loss tho.
Re: The SNH Football thread
Fucking word. Quietly amazing for the last couple of seasons.scspkr99 wrote:Song would be a massive loss tho.
I get the impression that's the financial plan really, but it only really works if they keep qualifying for the Champions League... contrary to club stereotype, I don't really care that much about having not won the Premiership in ages given the amount clubs like Chelsea and Man City have been spending, but if they want to keep the finances up to scratch they need to make sure they're on every stage they can be in the meantime. I think Wenger is on the same page with that tbh...

Re: The SNH Football thread
See I think it is the plan but clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool exist to win stuff. I get how arrogant that makes me sound (it's still a real purty glass house
) but the clubs have a tradition that the fans grow entrenched in. There has to be a mechanism that counters the massive spenders and I think that's what the clubs below those three have to find.
Re: The SNH Football thread
Im worried we're never going to see the best of Wilshere, players rarely get back to their best after being injured for that long

The season they won the league cup you mean?southstar wrote:Don't know why but i've always liked Villa. My opinion of Birmingham has been forever tarnished by that season under Mcleish
Re: The SNH Football thread
They deserved the league cup, Arsenal were pathetic in that final.
Im talking about their 9-0-1 formation in every premiership game that season

Well most teams that go on to get relegated play that formation.southstar wrote:They deserved the league cup, Arsenal were pathetic in that final.

Re: The SNH Football thread
Yep, that was dirt, but maybe you should know that in 3 of our last 4 games (admittedly pre-season and a league cup game), we've scored 5 goals each time? Also, last year we were the 2nd highest scoring team after Southampton. Hopefully those days are behind us.southstar wrote:They deserved the league cup, Arsenal were pathetic in that final.

And also, if Mcleish tarnished blues in your eyes, what about his season at Villa? Finished on less points that blues, less wins, less goals scored, more goals conceded (I think)!
Re: The SNH Football thread
I felt a bit sorry for Mcleish at villa. The fans clearly never wanted him there and it was obvious some of the players were putting fuck all effort in

Re: The SNH Football thread
4-2 win vs The Netherlands... Last time they conceded four was in 1999 against us as well
