They won the Mercury in 1998 and were touted as the 'saviours of British rock' and everyone at my college went apeshit for them.

Yep and yep.
The Strokes - Is This It?
Massive hype around The Strokes,
Yep. Properly overrated.

But no and no. Good album, great live band.

I can understand why people would like them, but the whole Whippin Picadilly era of publicity for them left a sour taste in my mouth, then Basement Jaxx brought out Remedy and I moved away from guitars altogether for a while.

I was a bit to young to appreciate them back in 98, my mum had the record and I didn't really "get it". Was about 2002 when I started getting into their music.

The ultimate 'bro' band. I don't think ANYONE into music still really takes them seriously. "Sup bro, let's chill and have some brewskies and bump to that Sublime dude. Have a toke or two. It's gonna be sweet"

I love it, but it might be a little bit... I'll tell you what definitely is, though:

DJ Yoda - How To Cut & Paste series.

All of them.

Daft Punk - Discovery
Bloated ego trip of an album.

Agreed. Though the first one was high-lair-e-ouse when I first bought it, but on revisit plays it's just a bunch of shit skits with a few Ugly Duckling style raps thrown in.

Agree, never liked that album, wasn't better than Deathcrush IMO.

Also, what I've seen people say of the new Smashing Pumpkins album, I was genuinely stoked when I saw so many die hard fans say such good things about the songs that were gonna be on it. After I listened to it... come on.

Never really understood the hype on this. Blue Lines and Protection most-assuredly-fuck-yes, but Mezzanine seemed to make it into all the "Best Albums Ever" lists and it was pretty mediocre compared to the rest of their work.

Propellerheads - Decksdrumsandrocknroll
"Whatdyumean MAGMA, it's like DANCE MUSIC MADE BY JAZZHEAD HIPSTERS FROM BATH! FINLAY QUAYE TOLD ME IT WAS BRILLIANT"

Coffee table as fuck. Spybreak!'s still good when it's soundtracking Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss shooting up a lobby, mind.

smashing pumpkins GAAAAHHH Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness could have been a single LP release and it would have saved everyone a lot of time.

Gish and Adore are worth mentioning, but after 4 SP albums (not gonna say a word against Siamese Dream)i really feel I've given billy corgan enough of my life
