@almostskate100: Thats wicked, good to hear some glitch hop that doesn't sound like KOAN Sound. Not that I don't like that. It reminded me an awful lot of "Tipper - Tiny Face." Definitely sounds like that was a big inspiration for you. Listened to it a couple of times and I can't really think of anything critical to say. Very tight man!

@Ill Mindset: Nice track, that buildup is awesome. I thought that the snare was lacking something, maybe if you tried layering it with a higher snare it would sound a bit more snappy. That arp sounds fat aswel, maybe a bit too much so as it seemed to overpower some of the other elements in the mix. I think the mixdown sounds a bit muddy which is something i'm also struggling with a bit in my own tunes so I don't know if I can really help with that, maybe just try to cut out some the low end in some of your synths. Overall it's sounding good!

Over the past few pages this thread has become a mess lol....

Why are people posting multiple single replies with feedback, one after the other - just post once with your feedback and WIP together.

@dj Cappa: Thats fucking crazy man! Reminds me of old "Stagga." Proper ketamine wobbles ha. Out of curiosity what synth(s) did you use for that? also i'm feeling the trap-esque hi hat pattern. Would love to hear that when it's finished. You could try adding some saturation/distortion or compression to give it some more power but I don't really know, it's better than I could make. Sick synth work!

-Edit- Sorry mthrfnk, these were my first 3 posts on here, still getting used to DSF etiquette :? . Before I post my WIP, quick question - If I upload a private track to soundcloud and post the secret link here, will everyone be able to see it? I'd rather wait till the tunes finished before posting it publicly. Cheers

Heh no worries, if nothing else it just makes it easier for you to post in one post instead of making 3 :)
And yes we can see secret link posts, just remember to add these tags around the link:

ah cheers, That was an absolute fucking nightmare trying to work out how to do that!

Here's my WIP,

Soundcloud

I'm having trouble with the reese just after the drop, I don't know what it is but it's just not sounding right. Also i'm using massive for pretty much the first time on the sub bass after watching distance's sub tutorial but it keeps kind of surging right at the end of each note so if anyone could give me some pointers on any of those things that would be great.
Cheers

Thanks man! haha, thats what I was aiming for :D
The main wobble is made in massive, but theres a TON of processing on it.
-duckorgan, wavetable pod all to the right, with lfo pushing it up to 3 o'clock
-flenders 2, pitched up 2 octaves, wavetable intensity and amp all at more or less half
daft filter with a saw wave lfo on it (green on the left and white on the right, so its like a reverse saw wave)
:)

I appreciate the suggestions. Someone else mentioned it was muddy. I kind of disagree. The thing is, there is no bass in those "arps". Totally rolled off all the low end. It was a guitar sound that has been resampled several times. I'm working on figuring it out. Thank for listening! :Q:

I rolled off what bass freqs I could and even some mid in the resampled guitar/arp parts and added a transient shaper to my snare for more attack. Here is the update:

Soundcloud

Rymebox: Katy Perry track is wicked. Maybe bus a few elements to glue them together a bit with some compression. Only thing I can think of

Illusive-Music : Parallel compress your drums on both tracks. could use some more size/punch and throw Ozone or Alloy on the master. pretty cool so far

kqmtb2006: Musically there are some cool things happening but you need to work on patch selection and effects processing. Parallel compress your drums as well and work on a bassline. Keep at it! :)

@Marzz - On your second track I think you could do without that lead synth that starts around 15 seconds in. I don't think it really fits.
@rymebox -Really good job man props on this. Personally I would cut the intro to about 27 seconds in but that's just my thought. Makes the rest hit a bit harder I'd think.

These last two weeks have been my first real go at producing but heres how far along I am on the first track. Any bit of feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Feedback left on soundcloud.

My friend just told me that he is going to attempt to submit his original + some remixes (possibly including this one) to a label so I'm trying to get the mixdown good.
I mainly want criticism on the mixdown but anything is welcome as I can still change things :W:

Alright guys?

First post in a while, been improving my workstation.

Feedback:

KQMTB2006 - Really like the chip-style melody, and the bassline sounds good, but I don't think the breaks at the end of the bass phrase add anything. You may want to consider holding the notes slightly longer, it sounds a little off for me.
Also the Arp and lead seem to be clashing on a few notes, maybe consider moving either of them up/down 1/2 an octave, or even a whole octave. really like the overall style though, PM me a link when it's finished :)

Ill Mindset - Love the keys in the breakdown sections, but the mid-range sounds a little too busy when the bassline comes in.

Illusive-Music - Drums sound pretty phat, nice. I do agree with you though, the parts before and after the drop don't seem to gel. Can't help with Massive problems though, I've never used it...

My WIP is in my sig, would prefer feedback on the cloud iff poss.

Cheers,

cappa, your excl track is sounding real nice bro! good work. i'm curious how it'd sound with the snares a little louder but then that'd drastically change the flow of the song and take attention away from the wobbles and arpeggio, just depends what you're going for but i thought it'd be worth mentioning.

ill mindset,
i really like the ideas you've put down so far for special update, i'm particularly digging the melody. the low end that picks up at 1:36 and is repeated at the end i'm not so sure of. it sounds drowned out, maybe conflicting frequencies? other than that, i like where you put the low end but if the sound itself were a more interesting sounding low end synth then it'd really do this song a lot of justice. the low end sound that pops up at 1:36 just seems kind of dull, like a cross between a low end synth and a buzzer of some sort. maybe if you layer it with another low end synth or play around with it by sampling it and modifying it using frequency modulation you'd come out with a more interesting sound. something with more character i guess. but that's just my opinion, there may be people who absolutely love that sound so take my words with a grain of salt ;)

mthrfnk,
the drift demo is fuckin amazing, i love it. love the melody, i can't help but wish that when the lead kicks in at 1:15 i wish it was a bigger sounding synth, more of a "big room" type of sound. maybe keep the synth you're using now but when 1:15 hits, have another lead synth layered to give it a bigger sound. the melody leading up to it is wonderful and you have a really great buildup there but a bigger sound at the drop would really do wonders for this song i think. i hear that it's layered right now and i do like what you did so it might just be as easy as slapping a diff synth in there maybe. anyway, i love it!

i think this will be the final version of my WIP, i layered the snares a little differently, i guess it's time to get started on the next one

I need to know if my new tune sounds too glitchy or does it sound fine? I don't want to throw the listener off by making things too complicated, but I do want it to be interesting. What do you think?

@djdizzy nice breaks although the cymbals really started to piss me off, try filtering the whole break inthe intro and tone down the cymbals. chords are good, as is the arp. vocals suit nicely. the drums seem to be ruining this tbh - it's like you just layered a break over the track and didn't mix/pan/process it much. the breakdown and reprise is well done too, work on the break & cymbals then you'll have a nice track. great job man :W:
@DJRaynes honestly i found the bass way too drony, and the panning was distracting. imo you need to develop your bass/mid - atm it just sounds like a lowpassed saw. the drums are good, and nicely clear. work on the composition and synth work on this one man. :4:
@Brothulhu good intro, nice drums and the little frilly synth is very nice. the majority of the track sounds good although maybe you could add some pads to fill out the space between your basses and high synth, like heavily sidechained "breathing" pads just for ambience. the mix sounds good, everythings clear, perhaps the the kick could be brought out a little more from the saw bass and the snare could use some high end crack. good work on this one ;-)

been fucking with this for the past hour or two, the kick/bass isnt mixed right and it sucks on soundcloud... but meh whatever

@djdizzy - I think the sub bass could be louder. And since there seems to be no mid range bass, you could add some higher harmonics to the sub bass. Maybe duplicate your sub bass, pitch it up an octave, remove high+low frequencies (bandpass it at about 1000Hz), then slap some chorus+unison onto it. You can use this 'harmonic bass' to fill out gaps in the spectrum in your track, which is usually around the low mids.

@dj Cappa - I love that wobble O__O. The kick sounds a little bit weak, you might just want to make the kick louder and give it some more low+high end. And at times the wobble doesn't sound quite right in terms of arrangement, but that is subjective. Just my opinion :)

@mthrfnk - The claps sound like they come slightly after the kick. You want to hit the claps very slightly before the kick so it leads onto it.
